London calling

Post by der Moench »

Hey. So, it's been a real long time since I signed in, but I always told some of the Brits here that if I was ever in the neighborhood, I would look them up, and, well, I'm heading to London 18 June - 24 June. If you are one of the old-timers that know me, and would be around the Thames estuary about then, drop me a PM - maybe I can buy you a pint. Or, if you know the place and think there is something really groovy I just have to see or do, drop a line here. And, just so this post isn't just about me, me, me - if you have anything interesting to say, or any anecdote you have to relate about the town - let us have it. Spam away.

Peace.

The London eye is good. Try that. I'm not an old timer, I live 50 miles away and to buy me a pint would be illegal so you'll just have to make do with my advice. If you're looking for touristy stuff do the Natural History and Science museums. They're quite unique. Then just do free stuff. Most of it isn't half bad. I haven't been to London for years now so it might all be different but that's my advice.

Wow! Long time no see!
How goes it? :D

Unfortunately I'm nowhere near London (on the Canadian west coast actually), otherwise I'd love to meet you.

In terms of the old timer Brits, I can't think of anyone who really posts all that regularly anymore... Hopefully at least one of them will see this and put the word out ;)

London, eh? I wonder if COMMrade Nippy can meet up with you. ;)

I'm sure it would be a blast when you get-together. :D

Spam away.
What's this, COMMrade? You have turned to the darkside during all this time that you've been away?

Shame! Shame! :p

@MageLord: well, maybe I'll be around again when you are of age. ;) Thanks for the London Eye suggestion.

@DW: I kinda figured when I logged in that this place would be all new people. It's good to see one or two die-hards. I was thinking back to names like Georgi, Nippy, GruntBoy (RIP), and - isn't T' from over there?

Anyway, it's always fun to visit. I knew you were a Canadian - I should have looked you up a couple years back when I drove through the US and Canadian Rockies. And whatever happened to the fish-slapping Canuck?

@Maharlika: Whoah - I gotta be honest: I forgot all about the Comm's rules against spam!! :speech: Good to see you are still keeping the light!

Peace out.

Just walk through the streets and feel the buzz. More than any other city, London possesses this incredible electricity and a sense of 'being there' in the centre of it all. Just walking through the streets is exhilarating.

Magelord offered a good starting point - the London Eye, at least location wise. While the London Eye gives a nice birds-eye perspective, for me personally, you'd be perfectly positioned to walk across Waterloo bridge for a spectacular view of the Houses of Parliament, the MI6 HQ (of modern James Bond fame) and the Strand stretching in front of you on the North bank; BT tower and other landmarks in the distance. From there I'd just meander north-wards through Bloomsbury, maybe stopping off at the British Museum - which has a spectacular atrium, let alone the exhibits it houses - but mostly just absorbing that wonderful urban atmosphere.
