Why won’t Jaheira advance?

Post by Katoya »

I have had her since the beginning of the game. Amoen is now Level 20 and she is stuck at 13. I don’t understand what is wrong. She has been 13th level for over a third of the game.

Any idea why?

Also do you earn individual xp from killing monsters? It says “the party gained x experience” but it seems some characters show this and others do not. Also when I returned Yoshimo’s heart – did my main character just get the xp or was it divided up.

Also I have only used the official patch. Should I do the Baldurdash patch?

Cheers.

Are there level limits for different races? In D&D humans could advance to unlimited levels but all other races could only advance to certain levels.

All XP you gain is evenly divided among your party members.

Different classes need different amounts of XP to gain a level, look at the XP tables in the back of your manual.
Clerics reach level 9 at 225,000 XP and need additional 225,000 XP for gaining a level.
Druids reach level 12 very fast, but need 1,500,000 XP to reach level 14 and even twice as much for level 15, but they level very fast afterwards.
Since Jaheira is multiclass half the XP gained is divided, half for her fighter, half for her druid levels.

It should also be noted that in BG2, druids advance very quickly up to around level 13, but after that, they advance horrifically slowly.

L11: 200,000
L12: 300,000
L13: 750,000
L14: 1,500,000
L15: 3,000,000
and so on...

And for jaheira, remember that she's a fighter/druid multiclass, so she's splitting her XP 50/50 between her two classes. Basically, you'll be doing well to get her to L14 in druid by the end of BG2-SoA.

A great minor tweak in the BG2 Tweaks mod is to replace the official BG2 druid XP/Level table and have them use the cleric's table. If you compare the two tables, you'll see that clerics advance more slowly, but do not hit a serious slowdown in the advancement like druids do at level 14-15. Thus, if you use this mod, Jaheira will advance a bit more slowly at first, but will not hit that druid's XP roadblock at L13-15. And in TOB, she'll have a more consistent advancement in levels without feeling like she's stuck in molasses.

Crucis and Kmonster,

Thanks for your replies. That makes me feel a lot better. Jaheira has just been sitting there not advancing for a very long time. What was strange was that the xp needed for her next level changed. One time it was 135,000 now it is 145,000. It just seemed like a bug - it's also no fun to have her stagnate while everyone else is regularly advancing....

Cheers.
