EasyTutu NPC Kit Selection

Post by TheAmazingOopah »

Heya, I'm just trying Baldur's Gate EasyTuTu for the first time, and all I have to do is to install the mods. I got the installation from this website: EasyTutu, and I want to install at least the mods that are suggested on that site:

Degreenifier (already installed)
NPC Kit Selection
TuTufix
BG1 NPC Project
TutuGUI
Spawn Randomizer (what's this exactly?)

I mainly have some questions about the NPC Kit Selection mod:

1) When you want to change the kits, all you have to do is run the designed program again and switch to the selected kit, right? And is it true that if you have turned say Xan into a sorcerer, and you have already picked him up in a game, he stays a sorcerer even if you change him with the program into a specialist mage? But, if you start a new game and you pick him up there, he has succesfully turned into a specialist mage?

2) When you want to assign a specialist mage kit to a mage NPC, you only get to choose 'Specialist Mage', no specific class. How is determined which of the 8 specialist mages gets picked? Can you do that later on manually, or does the game choose something on its own?

3) I've thought a bit about the selections, and my first thoughts would initially be:

Ajantis - Inquisitor
Alora - remaining Thief (fits her the most I think)
Dynaheir - Transmuter (more or less fitting for Dynaheir I think, and makes her able to cast those conjuration spells)
Edwin - remaining Conjurer
Eldoth - Blade
Faldorn - Avenger
Garrick - Jester
Imoen - Probably just Thief, possibly Bounty Hunter
Kagain - Either Barbarian, Wizard Slayer or regular Fighter, not sure yet (I only get the options Barbarian/Kensai/Wizard Slayer here - why isn't the Berserker included?)
Khalid - Wizard Slayer, possibly Kensai
Kivan - Archer
Minsc - Beast Master (really fits his personality, though it might be a downside that he can't use metal weapons like swords - very unlike Minsc! )
Safana - Assassin
Shar-Teel - Barbarian, possibly Berserker
Skie - Swashbuckler
Xan - Sorcerer, possibly remaining Enchanter
Xzar - remaining Necromancer

What would you think of these selections? Good? Or do you have better suggestions? What kind of kits did you guys assign to the NPC's, and how did that work out?

4) And then the final question, concerning EasyTuTu in general: are there any other fancy mods that you can advice? I'm not really looking for fanmade NPC's, but are especially looking for extra quests. I already know the game quite well, so any (good) new sidequests would be swell. Or if there is just any other EasyTuTu mod that you can personally recommend, just let me know. :)

Uhm as far as I know, you can't change specialist mages' kits
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Maybe because of his alignment ?

There's no reason to make Khalid a wizard slayer, especially since he has a spellcasting wife and is a friend of Gorion.
According to picture he can't be a kensai either.

Minsc is rather a barbarian than a ranger kit.

Shar-Teel seems too civilized to be a barbarian, she even knows someone in BG city. Swords are also rather fighter than barbarian weapons.

Better change the NPCs into how you want to use them, not into what they seem to be. This will probably yield more fun.

Yeah, that's true, I also found that out now. Only Sorcerer or the originial (Specialist) Mage class. Bit of a pity, but not all that bad really. The answer to my originial number 1 question is 'Yes' by the way, I got that confirmed on another forum.

Ah yes, Kagain's alignment might be the thing. No problem though, since I decided to make him a Wizard Slayer, fits him very much I think. :) Also doesn't give him any profincie restrictions.

Your advice to go for the most fun is probably a good one. In most cases I decided to go for the most fitting one - roleplaying reasons, naturally -, and if possible, the most original one as well, but if there was a matter of doubt, I more or less chose in the end the most fun one. Like with Imoen: I don't think she's really a Bounty Hounter, Assassin, or a Swashbuckler. If anything, probably a Swashbuckler, but she really has the innocent Thief thing, she's not really the acrobatic Swashbuckler kind. However, I have taken Imoen very often now in my party, and I decided that if I take her in again this time, I want at least a more interesting choice than a basic thief. So Swashbuckler it was.

I think that in theory Khalid could make a decent Wizard Slayer, even though he has spellcasting friends/SO's. He could be married to a druid and still being specialised in opposing mages. However, since I already had Kagain as the ideal Wizard Slayer, I decided to make him a Kensai, also because being a sword specialist suits him, and that forces me to use him rather as a heavy melee character, instead of a ranged fighter, which freshens it a bit up for me. Granted, he is clearly wearing armour on his resumé picture, but that's just a minor detail. That could be wiped from the table by calling it "poetic dramatisation by bards", and I'm fine. ;)
As for Minsc, I really want to play him as a ranger this time, instead of a berserking tank, so he remained Beast Master. Also quite possible that I won't keep him around this time, having him fall in battle, and will just stick with Dynaheir - for the romance and the sorcerer experience. Try new stuff this time.
I agree with you on Shar-Teel, probably more of a Berserker than a Barbarian. It reads indeed on the Bioware website in her biography that she was raised and trained professionally in her early years by that Flaming Fist bloke, so a barbarian fighting style is a bit out of order here. Still, she is a very agressive, wild warrior, so Berserker fits her perfectly I recon. :)

Here's the complete list of my decisions, for anyone who's interested:

Ajantis - Inquisitor
Alora - Thief
Dynaheir - Sorcerer
Edwin - Conjuror
Eldoth - Skald
Faldorn - Avenger
Garrick - Jester
Imoen - Swashbuckler
Kagain - Wizard Slayer
Khalid - Kensai
Kivan - Archer
Minsc - Beast Master
Safana - Assassin
Shar-Teel - Berserker
Skie - Swashbuckler
Xan - Sorcerer
Xzar - Necromancer

I have installed EasyTuTu succesfully now, with all the above mentioned mods, added by the 'Drizzt is not stupid' mod. I'm already loving the NPC Project. Hot diggity! that mod combined with TuTu is really the best thing to have hit Baldur's Gate since they introduced sliced bread in the Jovial Juggler :D It was a good idea too to switch the positions of Quayle, Alora, Tiax and Eldoth, so that they can be picked up right from the start. Does anyone know by the way if Eldoth's quest still has the timer of 10 days? I mean, the man obviously wants to rescue his lass, but since Baldur's Gate is shut up for quite some time, it's a bit hard to do the quest in just 10-20 days. Can anyone offer a bit more information about this one?

Oh wait, he actually mentions that he will travel with you as long as needed before you reach Baldur's Gate, so there's no timer. My my, the chaps behind this mod have really thought of everything! :D
