New to DLs, trying to make a caster and I am really confused

Post by nezitx »

I just got Dungeon Lords and I made a fighter and got into Fargrove. However, when I make a female elf mage with ranks 3 ranks in Arcane magic I can't seem to do much. 2 charges of 2 spells and then I am completely gimp. I also tried a character with ranks in Nether Magic, but did actually start with any nether magic spells.
How do you make a playable caster?
Also, how does saving work with Lan games, if my roommate and I want to play the whole game together?

It takes awhile before you build up enough spells to take on the mantle of a full caster. You have to do fighting in the beginning. If you want to feel more 'magish' put a point in 'magical weaponry' and wield a goblin staff (magical).

Magic pays off in the end!

As Claudius points out, you will need to build up your spell inventory by finding spells, or better purchasing them. I say it is better only because it is a sure thing...finding spells is often hit or miss. Each spell has only one charge, so you will need to sock points into scribe (for arcane magic) or channel (celestial magic) which will make the spells you have recharge faster. Those are skills that come with second tier classes so you won't have them right away. But, you will still want to have more than a couple of spells in your inventory anyway regardless of your scribe skill.

Even though you may have points in nether magic, you will not start the game with any nether spells. You make those yourself out of ingredients that you find in the game, or there are some pre-made ones you can buy at a few of the shopkeepers.

To save a LAN game works exactly the same as saving a single player game, and all the games are saved in the same area. One tip you may find useful is to put your single player game (if you have any) on one side of the save area and your multiplayer games on the other. That is just the way I used to do it...just to keep track of them. For some silly reason there are a finite number of savegame slots, so be sure not to save over something you want to keep.

mage early on

also camping recharges them fast, and goblin hut has 2 chest and a mage there, which will drop random spells from 1 of chest and from mage. like they say save early and save often, can get u a couple more spells from them early, and the mage is also where u get first goblin staff.you can open same chest and it will have different stuff to a piont each time( why yah save and reload just before u open a chest).

mages are the hardest to run early on but further in they are well worth it.

hope that helps
