Is DeathLord worth it?

Post by GameGeek »

Is it worth spending the time and considerable amount of advancement points to become a DeathLord? Why did the game make that class so hard to obtain as compared to the others? With Light Dual Weapons, you can yield a Medium and a Light at the same time. When you get Medium Dual Weapons, can you yield a heavy weapon with a medium weapon? If not, then the DeathLord class doesn't appear like it's all its cracked up to be. I'm interested in what people think is the best 3rd tier class to get. After reading about the HawkEye skill (and the ability to kill an opponent with one shot {does this work on Fire Drakes?}), the Ranger Lord class looks pretty tough to beat. If you get ShadowLord class, can you attack when you are in shadow form?

You can use dual wield light weapons with a heavy weapon in your main hand as long as it is 1 handed. I am using the Barbed tip something or other right now (buy at Arms of Argus) 2-12 damage.

Death lord gets medium dual weapons and Inflict wounds. Also Learning bonus in arms. I think medium over light isn't huge but inflict wounds might be cool???

Ranger Lord Hawkeye is reported to work only when the enemy is close to death (and bows suck). I haven't heard good things about shadowlord either.

I am a sorceror/marauder and I will become a wizard/marauder

Hey!....First post

Deathlord......hmm.

Well, I have been using a character with the Deathlord tier, and I like it. As a primarily melee character it kicks. Dual weapons, unlike a character swinging a single sword, you don't have to worry so much about defence because the ability to swing two swords allows you to hit quickly. Being a Deathlord allows you to swing more effective weapons, for example, the master no-dachi in one hand and the katana of the sun in the other. You can also use two medium weapons also, again as an example, the katana of the sun and the demonic katana. The effectiveness of these and other weapons like these can be enhanced by raising your damage. As for killing drakes, how about the Sapphire Greatsword in one hand and the Azure Sword in the other. The drake keeps getting frozen and has no chance to recover and turn your character into a crispy critter :D

As far as being a Shadow lord,
Crystal of Levitation + Sanctuary = Shadow Lord...........nothing special.
You can attack as you would normally because the Shadowlord ability is to enhance your defensive abilities.

Deathlord is a really fun class. While the requirements are fairly high:
"Heavy Weapons 10, Heavy Armor 10, Heavy Shields 10"

With stacking learning bonuses, they really aren't that bad. I had a adept/fighter marauder/ valkyrie and that combines 4 learning bonuses for armor, and 3 for weapons and shields. It was actually pretty easy to get the requirements that way (with an hour of so of leveling on Moonbeast island) ;) . Battlemage and Paladin also get learning bonuses for weapons and armor.

Dual wielding medium weapons is an excellent way to dish out more damage, even though if you don't go the Deathlord route, dual wielding light weapons is also a very good skill. As previously pointed out, you can equip a heavy weapon and have a light weapon in your offhand.

I had a rangerlord a while back. While hawkeye does work, the killing creatures with one shot is misleading. Can you kill with one shot? Yes, if your hawkeye skill is around 5....and you are shooting at say...a goblin or a bandit. In other words, low level creatures. Your chances of pulling that off with a high level creature are less than 0, unless it is very near to dying anyway, in which case who cares? :) I am not saying that to dissuade you from Rangerlord, it was a fun class too, but as also previously pointed out...bows in this game are not so great. The good bows are next to impossible to get and then only at the end part of the game.

I too have gone with Rangerlord as a fifth tier and competely agree with Kathy. Although "The Hunter" heraldry gives +5 archery strike and +25% archery speed and damage the result still leaves a bit to be desired.
Javetta the Slayer dropped The Bow of Vines when I defeated her. That can be fun to use once in a while. I have never seen the Bow of the Avenger in game yet...not even in the maze  Just the editor :o

deathlord worth it?

hello, ive played deathlord and shadowlord both, i prefer melee types. deathlord has the medium dual weild which allows more damage from secondary weapons, but as a shadowlord u are immune to almost all spellls for a short period of time. third char was shadowlord with a war rogue valkyrie samuri base, gives yah light dual weild and short term complete magic resist to most spell. i did shadow ruins before i did naga temple also, with shadow lord heraldry i took on naga queen, tot rune mace primary from mog, and eleven darksword off hand. took down queen with lvl 5 shadowlord skill before it wore off right next to her. every skill has its rweards, and if you notice females get an extra heraldry so have 10 heraldry plus shadow lord skill. works real well in my opion.
to make it short, deathlord get to do more damage from there weapons with having bigger weapon in off hand. shadow lords get a major defensive bonus which work well in nasty fights with little loss of damage output with right class combination. also shadow lords get magic weaponry and learning bonus in it.
with my class set up magic weaponry was only gotten from shadowlord, and got major discount on all weapon skills. dual weild is the way to go in my opion . when u go melee type , can hit more and do more damage overall.and i am usually a tank type anyways. with just refering to this website for maps and when i got lost on progression. i was able to do entire game in 2 weeks from start. was good short break from eq.
hope that helps and i do tend to ramble on sometimes , have fun.
