Asylum Club, Jeanette & Therese [SPOILERS]

Post by Banedon »

Spoiler

Hi Guys

Hi Guys, I have a problem trying to use Seduction, Initimidation, or (the one I want to use) Persuassion on Jeanette and Therese in their final arguement in the Asylum.
I have previously played up to this point in the game (quite a while ago) and remember getting them to reconcile their differences using the above skills. I now get no options what-so-ever apart from the standard ones.
I even went around and did all the other quests to gain 29 xp so I could experiment and place xp in Charisma, Wits, and all related areas to highten one skill or another. I even had enough to raise several together just in case a combination was needed.
I have read around the 'net and various sources say you need to have a persuation and/or seduction of 4 or more. I have done this and no effect is evident. I have tried all paths through the dialogue, but still the same: either Jeanette kills Therese or vice-versa. No option to persuade (or Intimidate/Seduce) them into living with each other.
I don't really care about the xp award but want my character to do the "right thing" with this. Maybe sounds a bit dumb, but it IS an RPG :)

Any advice/help would be deeply appreciated.

Banedon

P.S. I am running a full English install patched to v1.36

Persuasion only

Possible Spoiler on one of the early missions in Santa Monica. If you're past Santa Monica you should be ok:

Intimidate or seduction won't help you make them reconcile. Wits won't help you either, as it only buffs your defense and hacking feats.
I can't remember how high persuasion you need, but what you need is persuasion. That is, Charisma + Scholarship. I think you need a persuasion feat (Cha + Scho) of 5 if I'm not mistaken. So say, Charisma 2 and Scholarship 3 should be enough.

There are quite a lot of threads covering this topic; the main question is: What patch are you using? I've never heard of a v1.36, to be honest. Must be an unofficial one, but I really don't know if it's one of Wesp's very early ones or another (the only other one I know being the "True VTBM"-patch, a stripped-down version of the Unofficial patch by Wesp).
Or it might be a patch to go with the Steam-distributed variant; are you sure the version number is correct?

Well, I was runnign with the last official patch which was v1.20 (I think). When I came across this I figured it was a bug, patched to the latest unofficial patch (1.36), and reloaded from an earlier save game.
I have tried a persuassion of 6 but it doesn't matter how hard I try: I cannot get those extra options to appear.

hm.. again, I don't know of such a patch.
2 things I can give as an advice though:
1) After patching, _always_ start a new game; save games from previous patches create quite.... interesting errors.
2) In the original 1.0 version, iirc all that was required was a Persuasion feat of 4. Try searching the changelogs of both patches you're using as to whether there have been made any alterations to that quest.
Combining those two advices should pretty much set you up. ;-)

Hmm ok. I believe the quest has been changed but I'm not sure how. I'll have a look. Might be that I'll have to either start again *groan* or live with it.
Thanks very much for your help, Shizz and Lukeatus :)

Wel, I reinstalled then applied the latest patch. Now I'm starting to get those missing persuassion lines even before I get to the Asylum. So looks like a game bug to me.

Just realised that my reply might not have been explanatory enough:

It seems that Shizz was correct: patching the game and continuing to use my save game is what caused the problem. If a new patch comes out then:

1) Uninstall the game, choosing to remove all settings and save games (you MUST do this)
2) Reinstall the game
3) Apply the official 1.2 patch
4) Apply the latest unofficial patch (3.7 last I looked)
5) Start a new game.

If you wish to continue a existing game NEVER install another patch over the top. It's just too much of a pain in the backside to have to reinstall etc *and* begin the game all over again.

Maybe the guys writing the unofficial patch need to put a warning on it.
