How does Paladin spellcasting level work?

Post by Klorox »

They don't get spells until 6th level. So, at 6th level, are they considered a 1st level caster, or a 6th? Is caster level determined by class level directly, by class level -5, or by some division of class levels?

I'm curious about this, and I'd like to calculate how spells like Draw Upon Holy Might work out for higher level Paladins.

As far as I know, they'd count as 6th level casters. From the GameFAQs Paladin Spell Guide, it says:

"Paladins aren't great at healing damage, as they gain spells far too slowly for the healing to have much significance. But they generally do max healing the spell allows because of the levels at which they gain spells. Not too bad though."

So (if that's right, and I'm not misunderstanding it) their caster level is their Paladin level, not the spell level. I've never played a Paladin through that far that I can remember though, so I might be wrong ;)
