i've been playing a bit further, and accepted the mission given to me by
many-of-one (the rat king), so now stale mary is more important than before.
i don't a charisma above 16 and don't have the friends spell.
is there something else to do?

On the long run it doesn't matter if you find the king or not, just a little unimportant XP.
Just continue with the story, you can come back once you have the "friends" spell or 16 cha or leave this nuisance behind forever.

thank you.
i was just a bit frustrated from the fact that there is something i leave behind.
i don't like leftovers. :)
in the end i did as you suggested, left the place and returned later when i had the spell.

I'm having an even worse version of this problem. Its like this:

I'm talking to stale mary, she already gave me story-bones-tell and now i want the peacefull way to see the silent king. However i don't get that dialogue option. I have 21wis, 21int and 13cha. I use the spell friends to boost my charisma to 21 but even then all she ever answers when i talk to her about the silent king is "silent king". She always says the same and never talks about a portal. Its really irritating because i want to finish the quest for many-as-one and get my memory. I have done every possible quest in the dead nations and still nothing.

Does anybody have a clue to what is going on? A bug perhaps? What am i doing wrong?
And is there any penalty/quest later on in the game i can't complete if i kill everybody in the dead nations?

Also i would like to know if it matters to have the skull of the silent king and Hagrimm or that the skull of soego will do fine?

Thnx to all in advance for any help you can give me.

you can just kill everyone in the catacombs and enter the silent king's chamber
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Is there no way to do it without killing the undead?

I could have sworn that you'll get an option about the Silent King right in the first dialog tree when initiating conversation with Stale Mary. As you probably know, you need at least 16 Charisma. This is the only non-violent way to see the Silent King, so if this isn't working then I'm not sure what to suggest... bug?

When you mention the skulls, do you mean for Lothar? If so, then he'll accept Soego's skull, or any of the others who've mentioned. He'll also take Montuoks...

Excellent game, I agree.

I also put off playing it for more than a year after getting it, not because of the protagonist's appearance, but because I generally prefer a little more customization than is allowed in the game. After playing it through, though, the only real problem I have with it is that it was a little too low on combat. The game's setting, story, and characters are interesting enough that it makes up for this, however. It was certainly a remarkable experience, especially since I had recently finished Icewind Dale 2, which seemed comparatively shallow in terms of plot but which was filled with almost constant battles.

It's not the BEST game I've ever played, though. That would probably be Age of Wonders or Legend of Mana, in my opinion.

Have you tried playing it with a fighter possessing low wisdom and intelligence? Very different game. Many dialog options are closed to you, and battles become more numerous.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Stale Mary will tell you how to get to the Silent King's chamber ONLY if you are still a prisoner, after you've asked Hargrimm if the Silent King could be "convinced to allow otherwise", you have learned Stories-Bones-Tell, and your Charisma is greater than 16. Other wise the dialog doesn't so or she says no.

OOPS wrong topic. I didn't mean to disrupt the conversation.

Anyway, I actually did the exact opposite. I played as a mage with massive wisdom and intelligence. Playing as a fighter didn't seem as interesting to me.

Yeah, thinking about it, playing as an evil fighter with no mental stats would get you into a lot more fights, and maybe make the game a little more difficult (there are a few enemies that I can't imagine running up to like a maniac). I'll try that sometime.
