I've only tried this on Nar Shaddaa, so I don't know if it works elsewhere:
I remembered that I'd forgotten to go back to the cantina on the Entertainment Deck and recover the extra set of Twi'lek Spinning Blades (from the 1st time Atton "kills" the Twin Suns), so I headed back after finishing up the 2nd mission on Onderon and go back to the cantina. Once there, I see that I've still got some unexploded mines I can recover, so I do so... out of habit, I hover the pointer over my character's portrait to see if any XP gets awarded, and it does!
After a little experimentation, I've found that if you lay a mine and recover it without leaving the planet, you get no XP, however if you lay a bunch of mines, go back to the Ebon Hawk and fly to another system, then return to Nar Shadda, you get XP for every mine you pick up. Pretty cool, huh?
Found an Interesting XP Exploit (possible spoilers)

Sorry
Sorry to tell you this buddy but this is already pretty common knowledge. Nice to know that people keep picking up on the xp stuff though. It shows that we are really keen to test the game to its limits.
