First Time with TOB

Post by Jordoo »

Fially got TOB and installed it going to run a group through SOA and then Import the game. Already have a Cavalier as main character ready to go from tutu. How does this group sound, any major problems?

1. Cavalier: main tank
2. Minsc: secound tank
3. Airie: imagine at high levels she is very powerful
4. Anoman: tank/divine
5. Nalia: Arcane
6. Jan: thief/arcane

note will drop either Nalia or Jan for Imoen as soon as I get her, any suggestions.
Also have heard that its possible to pick up another really good fighter type in TOB if thats the case I may drop Minsc if that character is better.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

He is better (the new character in ToB), but he is evil. So you have to consider that as well.

The party you sugest looks doable. I would put a middle rank fighter in it (supporting character, but is not totaly defenceless in close combat), but that is my taste in parties.

He's evil to start with, you mean. He can be convinced to become otherwise. And no one will leave your party, or force him out, even if they're as pure as Keldorn.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

After the start of ToB no NPC will leave the party because of alignment/reputation issues any more.
I recommend keeping Jan, the rogue HLAs are very powerful. Try to get Imoen back fast.

Your party is balanced and fine, you'll only miss druid spells.
Minsc is imho the worst warrior NPC, but still sufficient, especially if you want to replace him at the start of ToB. I'd consider dismissing him earlier to get more XP for the other party members, you won't reach the 8,000,000 XP cap anyway.
There's no point in keeping Nalia after you've finished her quest, you have enough arcane and thieving skills.

You are correct, but I didn't want to put a spoiler in that post.

Thanks Guys,

That group is toast though because I had all kinds of problems had to reinstall my whole game. Anyway had gotten that group together and was just not up for running the begining with the same crew so now I got my game straightened out and here is my crew.

Barbarian
Minsc (to be dropped for better fighter in TOB)
Jahiera
Viconia
Jan
Nalia (to be dropped for Imoen but need her spells until then)
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

If you have decided to let Viccy (whom i adore  ) join your party, than why not substitute whiny underpowered Nalia with the much more colourful Edwin. I guarantee a laugh with him and Viccy around, plus his side quest is hillarious. And IMO Korgan is a much better fighter than Minsc. So much that you will have a hard time choosing weather to substitute him for the mystery TOB figure

I am dumping Nalia for Imoen anyway. And just took the boat to get her. If I was dumping Jan then definitaly Edwin much better than Nalia but wanted the Flail and trying to get Imoen back very Early. Korgan is the best NPC Fighter in BGII IMO. I have a Fighter/Illusionist CE that I ran through TUTU and will be my next run through BGII and TOB after this Game I plan on taking Viconia, Edwin, and Korgan. Then they will torment the other NPC'c that we let join until they leave or cause fights.Imoen and then of course the new Fighter in TOB to complete the six

Korgan is far better than Minsc.
Anomen is neither good enough cleric nor fighter. I'd relpace him with either Viconia or an arcane caster. Or, best, with Haer'dalis.
Nalia is not a good spellcaster. Neither is Imoen. Edwin is your man.
Don't drop Jan. He is both a good spellcaster and the best thief available without mods. The UAI and powerful traps, as well as Assassinate, must never be underestimated. BtW, Haer'dalis can also set traps on higher levels.

it depends...

when Anomen becomes Sir Anomen and also gets a holy symbol (or two if you know the trick!) - he is pretty decent. for good parties, you'd want him instead of Vicky, but neutral/evil parties, Vicky may be a better choice. I have just finished TOB with Sir A present at the final battle - I think he was around level 36 or so by then.

I also had Nalia there - she was pretty worthwhile, as was Imoen - I wanted 2 casters and loaded them up differently with memorised spells to get a good range. when they have a few level 9 spells and items that allow extra spells at all levels (e.g. rings, swords, circlets etc) those girls have 'girl power'!

For role-play, I don't like Edwin, even if he is a good caster.

my newly-started BG2 game has the PC as a multi-class fighter-mage-thief, so I can do the casting/thief-skills myself. I've got to level 9 in each or thereabouts and I have only done a few quests. I have kept Nalia for the time being and Aerie - she is a bit of a pain, but being able to spell-trigger/contingency divine spells as well as mage ones, makes her good for later on. Nalia? I may not solve her quest once she leaves.
