BAron Ployer scroll drops

Post by limitedwhole »

Hey, upon perusing the scroll locaiosn at Mike's rpg center i was a little dismayed to learn that many good scrolls are supposed to drop at the battle at BAron Ployer's in the slums. unfortunately, I didn't get these scrolls. Key stuff like the greater sequencer and the like. Anyone have this problem. I found this battle ages ago and maybe got a few lvl4's but nothing like what is at Mike's. As I recall, you have to do it early too as Jaheira gets poisoned and you have to do the fight. It was quite difficult at low levels taking on three powerful mages, too bad I got janked on teh loot. Any ideas why I missed out on all the good scrolls. I got the +1 Quarterstaff etc. but no good scrolls. Maybe cloudkill or something.

Edit: Spell trigger was the big one. Supposed to drop off Malcazar.

I never got any high level scrolls from that fight. I think level four spells would pretty much be my top catches.

I'm afraid Mike's RPG center might be a little off with this.

I did get high level scrolls from fights with the Cowled Wizards, though. And I seem to recall there're quite a few nice scrolls in the Underdark.

Neither Cowled Wizards or Ployer's magicians have fixed spell scrolls. They do, however, have certain "item slots" which may include some very powerful scrolls. For instance, the last Cowled wizard you fight (who usually runs away), Zallanora, has 8 or 9 slots for "random reward item slots" .But on these slots can be placed random items - weapons +1, magical arrows or bolts, a little money, potions, gems, necklaces, and, of course, a random powerful spell scroll lvl 6-8. It is a great rarity(though possible) to receive a Time Trap scroll. And I think that Power Word Blind is impossible to attain in a random encounter as a loot prize. Other such impossible to attain scrolls are Protection from Magical Weapons, Contingency, Death Fog.

These so-called "random reward item slots" which may include rare scrolls like Spell Trigger or Mordenkainen's Sword, are also set on many other monsters and in many chests. For instance, each Skeleton Warrior has 1 such slot, i.e. if you're lucky enough, you can get a Spell Trigger scroll from a random Skeleton warrior who woke you up in Firkraag's dungeon. Now, I hope you will not rush there to make it your home and sleep like 1000 days in order to collect each and every spell scroll lvl 6-8. However, there are some fixed spell scrolls in the game(in shops, chests, enemies) and it is good to know all of them.

You don't have to do this early. You can leave a lot of things out until later if you take the body down to the harpers by a different route and do not allow Xzar to see you. By doing this, I was able to complete Nalia's quest, Cernd's quest, the ones in the bridge district, the one where you kill the shadow dragon, the one where you are decieved into killing some good guys and several others before dealing with the Baron Ployer quest.
I suspect, but am not certain that the scrolls that get dropped are linked to the level of your character. No doubt somebody more experienced than I would be able to enlighten you better than I can.

Nope, the scrolls have absolutely nothing to do with the level of your character. I remember receiving a Spell Sequencer scroll in Irenicus's dungeon and a Spell Trigger in the Graveyard(lvl 10). I do, however, think that the chance of scroll-dropping relies on the way you kill the monster which will drop it. If you kill it instantly with magic, the chances are greater.

SPOILERS
The places that have consistantly given me high level scrolls early are:
Spoiler

1: The Gates district Lich - One of the containers in that room (I think it's the chest with the daystar in it) often contains either a jewel, necklace or scroll of high value. I often get a Laetaral's Tear Necklace or Maze, Sequencer, Cacofried, Incinidary Cloud or Haskashar. Just save before entering the room and reload if required.

2: Trademeet Store Merchant (The one that sells the robe of Good Archmagi) - On the right hand side of the room there are three chests (locked?) one of them often contains an extremely high level scroll, I've collected a Timestop scroll from this location before.

3: Killing the Cowled Wizards also nets some wealthy items and good level scrolls, though I don't think I've scored anything higher than level 7 or 8 level scrolls. Good enough for exp alone though.
Warning: logic and sense is replaced by typos and errors after 11pm

Thanks guys, guess I just have to keep plugging away. I also missed that one time merchant at the gates. Doh! Figured, "I'll just come back later and grap those 4 lower resists when I need them." Oh and the spell thrusts and like every friggin metaspell scroll.

One last question. I have not made it to throne of baal yet, but on mikes it says a llot of high levels scrolls are sold by some guy. Does he have multiples of these or are these high levels scrolls only in singletons?

You will meet the merchant who was in the City Gates District again later. He is in one of the buildings of Brynnlaw. The place is not marked on the map, look around a bit. So I wouldn't worry about the Lower Resistance and other scrolls...

Spell Thrust is the cheapest way to get rid of an enemy's Spell Shield. Keep that in mind when battling Irenicus.

In the beginning of the Throne of Bhaal you will indeed meet with Lazarus Librarius, who has all of the spell scrolls you can imagine. Including the new spells - Bigby's Clenched Fist, Bigby's Crushing hand and Wish. He has two pieces of each type of scroll, with the exception of Wish. He has only one Wish scroll. There is the only place to get the Imprisonment scroll, also. So, make sure you have enough gold when you go to him. The guy has other valuable items, too, like a second Bag of Holding, mage robes of the Good, Neutral and Evil archmagi, as well as Boots of speed.
