I agree totally. I was only explaining the root of my original response that high stats aren't that important. As I said before, it doesn't really apply to crpg's with their limited roleplaying opp's. Someday...someday.

Another hint: save in a slot before each battle, and quicksave in between turns. Restore when it turns out bad.

My system had a problem with q-save after mods were applied as noted at Co8. The corruption of my save files made playing rather difficult as you might imagine. Otherwise, you'd have to be insane not to save frequntly in any case, but especially before a big fight (or, at least, when you expect one). I always save before map changes as well.

Quicksaves and the autosave on map changes both are known to lead to frequent file corruptions and/or crashes. It is recommended that this be avoided.

If you don't want to roll up stats for 30 minutes, just use the console to set them to what you think they should be. Or use the cheat where you go back and forth between advanced and basic stat-generating methods to set them to whatever you like (up to 18) when you first generate the PCs.

Yes, auto-save should be disabled if using Co8 modpacks. consoling stats is cheating *shrugs* While changing back and forth between stat generation methods is only taking advantage of a loohole in the system :D

[HTML]Iguess the extra could be worthwhile in crpg's where the ability to role-play thru weaker stats isn't available. As an old-time PnPer from the days of 'basic' DnD, I still believe taking what you get and making the best of it. Unless, that is, you roll three 3's, a 6, and two 9's, or the equivalent.

LOL, yep, I remember those old days! I am the only person I know of who rolled up a guy with no stats higher than a 5....

I do find this game cumbersome. The walking and scrolling speeds are enough to drive somebody mad! Then there are the fights with the giant crayfish and giant frogs... even my hight hp fighter types get killed in one hit.... Very aggravating game which is sad because ToEE was one of my faves in PnP.

I love the giant frogs. especially when they grab you with their tongues, and after you break free you're still doing the "hula-dance". :p

Woo you can save during a battle? Amazing I never saw a RPG able to do that. About battles going wrong the game has a flee feature that work much well than previous D&D computer games. It's cool feature to allow you stick in the mood and don't break it a little by game reload.

Well if your character has all stats bellow 5 you can't complain isn't able to resist to the king of giant frost don't you think?

About this battle I won't spoil but a little hint, don't you notice a strange behaviour of the big frog during battle? Once you do, now think how to exploit this and try, you'll get a nice surprise if you want the fight much more easy.

IIRC, you can save in combat, yes. I think in Arcanum & Fallout you could as well, just like in NWN.

Lol I requested confirmation just to be sure, in no way I'll replay Neither NWN nor Fallout. I tried not so long ago to replay fallout and that was awfull! Too bad it was an amazing game. I played NWN and mods too much and in fact don't like a lot the system.

I replayed Fallout recently, and I don't get what's so awful about it. As for NWN, it's the same system as ToEE.

Just me then for Fallout. For NW, even if it's same rules, you party with only one controlled characters with a figh system much more sample can in no way compare to ToEE. Myself all those fpp RPG we get now get me bored I regret not having more with the point of view like in ToEE, BG and other.

Yeah I regret that most new big RPG, often very good because a lot of money time and skills put in them, don't use anymore true party system. In fact my dream would be a mix a bit like in ToEE, party PC and party NPC. But with :
- Better personality setup
- No need of party NPC quest which cause more frustration of get them all to see all quests and breaking party mood
- Perhaps less controlled than in ToE.
- A diversified system where they take some treasure but less nasty and with less problems than in ToEE.
- A smarter system for controlling a part of their inventory but not everything.
- Eventually more talk stuff like in NW but without some options about trading items or something like that.
- NPC with more freedom, some leaving your party (after to allow you some trade with them about their stuff). Some becoming uncontrolled during fight for some reason but smart computer managed. Some leaving the party and coming later with some changes.
- Eventually some that get on the evil side finally switching to foe during a fight (yeah already seen in some RPG)

Sometimes it's good to dream! :-)

You should check out the Circle of 8 mod for ToEE. It has some of your desired changes.
