I am currently Figher/Mage/Valkyrie/Imperial
will go for War Witch when I get my Gas Mask
I got The Angel Heraldry which says "Protection From Death"
I decided to try it out, and I certainly DO STILL DIE
And, when I Ressurect, I DO STILL LOSE all of my ADV points.
So, what is the point of this Heraldry?
The Angel Heraldry
If you put the mouse over the heraldry, I believe it says 10% protection from dying. So the chances of your dying in any given situation is only reduced slightly, not 100 % protection from death.
You should also use your crystal of life to resurrect, since you can spend your advancement points when your dead while using it, and you won't lose any attributes. I never, ever revive. It makes more sense to me to save often and if I die before getting the crystal of life I simply reload.

Early on while playing my first character, I made the decision to save FREQUENTLY, and Never Revive/Ressurect/Etc
I would just go back to the saved game.
I have never used that crystal didn't know what it did until now...
I will hover my cursor over the heraldry and see what it says....
The goal is to not get to the point of dying in the first place, so this bonus doesn't seem very useful to me Oh well

I have 2 theories as to what it could do.
1. Works like the crystal of life so that you don't lose attributes when you revive. Doesn't really make it worthwhile that way.
2. Gives a chance that when taking a hit that would otherwise kill you, instead it leaves you with 1 hp.
The first one is kind of pointless, but the second would be very useful. I'm not willing to test either one as I would prefer to not die at all and reload if I do. But I do think I have noticed my health reach empty (or nearly so) without dying. At that point I have brought up the equipment screen and used a greater health potion. I guess if I see it again I can check the character screen and see what the actual health point are. It wouldn't confirm anything as it could just mean that the hit would have left me with 1 hp anyway.

I have received the heraldry several times as I like to join the sisterhood even if I don't take their classes. However, you get the Angel heraldry by doing class quests with the sisterhood and just to reiterate again....the heraldry offers a little bit of protection against death. It will not protect your character from dying all together as that would sort of make playing pointless. Like any heraldry, it's a bit of a bonus, with some bonuses being better than others.

Yes and indeed you were right 1Bob with your 2nd idea; there was the same thing in Wizard & Warriors in fact, called there Guardian Angel

Plus give it a try and effectively it worksGuardian Angel: if the character has more than 1 hit point remaining, any damage that would kill the character instead reduces the character's hit points to 1
