Erm, that entirely depends on your preference, especially considering how different each of those games are.

DND is a fantasy pen and paper game, D20 star wars is a sci fi pen and paper game, and then Warhammer is a Sci Fi game with a LOT less roleplaying in it than the above two mentioned.

warhammer isnt sci fi, warhammer40k is(i play the warhammer faba). The reason i made this thread is that i dont know what of them to buy, and i wanted to know what people think is the best of them. And i dont have too much money so i would also like to know if i have to buy multiple books etc.
Isnt star wars d20 kinda like kotor(exept that its pen and paper)? And it was based on d&d??????

Yeah, D20 Star Wars is basically KoTOR on paper, and no, It's not based on DND.

DND is based on D20, as is D20 star wars based on D20.

In any case, my point still stands, just replace Warhammer Sci Fi with Warhammer Fantasy. One is Fantasy roleplaying, one is Fantasy Strategy, and one is Sci Fi Roleplaying. We can't just say what's best for you, it's like me telling you to drink coke when you're a pepsi fan or something, we can't force out opinion to be your opinion.

Okay, now i have read about all of them on wiki, and i think ill drop d&d off, its too big and expensive for me..... :D
I cant choose from the two rest, so ill just ask which of them is more expensive and what do i need to play them. I like kotor and warhammer faba both a lot.

D20 Star Wars is less expensive right now.

They just came out with a new edition to the book, so I doubt they'd have more than a couple of books wheras Warhammer would probably have ten or twenty easy.

Considering that a new edition came out, I'd say it's a good investment in that you'd buy the first few books and then if you're still interested, you'd gradually buy other books as they come out.

Drunkside, you seem like you prefer Star Wars anyway- you post in the forum often, and your picture has two lightsabers. If it were my money, I'd spend it on D&D, but that's because I like middle-ages-type fantasy, not sci-fi.

Have you read any of the books? If you liked a specific storyline or world, that is probably a good system to spend money on.

I bought the sw d20, and got the last of the new edition books :p Yea, its true that i prefer star wars to fantasy but i didnt know if it was a good game or not...and d&d was too expensive :D (the reason i dont post too often on nwn forums for example is that i have nothing to say, im not gonna tell any naablet my best builds and the whole forum is mostly about single player. The reason for this pic is that i just like dual weps and darth revan). Now that i have read about 100 pages of the book, i have some troubles understanding some things:
What does it mean that some skills say "you can take 10 but not 20"?
And do the force points regenerate at all(it would suck to be a level 20 jedi without any force)?

What does it mean that some skills say "you can take 10 but not 20"?
This means you can take average on a 20 sided die. Average is 10.5 and rounded down, it's 10. It basically means you can take average or roll for a chance of perfection (20 being perfect).

Also, the reason you can take 20 on some skills and not others is because it is assumed that you keep trying, failing many times, before acheiving the success you were looking for. For any skill that that has negative consequences for failure or does not allow retries, you cannot take 20.
What are you hoping to see here? Up there, the post is up there.

Most of the time, taking 20 on skills means you're taking your time for perfection, you're not just jamming a lock pick into the keyhole and hoping it opens, you're messing with the mechanics a bit.

The purpose of this thread was to determine which RPG Drunkside should purchse. Since that purchase has taken place and the topic is spinning out of contol, I'll be closing the thread.

Feel free to start a new thread to discuss the play or mechanics of Star Wars, it is a great game and I used to play the previous version which was d6 based.
