is this game supposed to be..green? i just started playing. everything looks ghost green to me..The whole game and the whole interface..all the characters are green, fonts are green, menus are green, items are green. Is this what NWN is like? or is it a graphics card incompatibility..? I looked at some game screenshots online and they look colorful to me. Why is my game green?!
Im using Radeon 9000 graphics card with 64MB video Ram and 1Gb physical RAM. i know my card is old, but this is an old game...
I recall downloading the demo of NWN on another computer a few years ago and the demo was green too...
Someone please enlighten me..
why is NWN green?

There's a screenshot of what a city in the game should look like. When you say everything is green, I'm not sure if you mean "there are a lot of green items in the game" or "it's like a piece of green tinted plastic wrap on my monitor."
Your card is completely compatible, however, if you're monitor is old, that might affect the coloration of the game. Old monitors and semi-new video cards (New as in within the year 2000+) don't mix very well.

"it's like a piece of green tinted plastic wrap on my monitor." >> This one! Every single pixel of the game is in GREEN! there are different shades of green though. There are dark green, light green, etc etc.
I'll post a screenshot later.
If i've had this problem on two different computers (one for demo one for fullversion+expansions+patches), then this problem shouldn't be a unique to me.

does it happen in windows,ie all the time? if so then it could be a pin on the cable that might be bent or not conecting properly to the card or monitor.
a bit of easy fault finding is to try it with another monitor.
also try updating drivers for your radeon 9000.always worth a try.

That is most definitely not what the game looks like, and I'm surprised you'd even think that.agc28 wrote:Here is the screenshot. Is this what NWN should look like?
EDIT: my monitor is new from last year.
If you can take a screen shot like that, it would appear that either your graphics card is messed up, or the graphics settings for the card/game is the culprit. The monitors display should not have influence on your actual screen shot, so I doubt it would be the monitor.
If this happens only in NwN, then try turning down the graphic settings in the game to see if that helps, or check if you have some settings in your card's control panel which overrides the game settings.
If it happens in more games/programs then NwN, then again - check your graphic cards control panel, and/or display settings. It simply looks as if the green is turned up in your control panel for the card's setting.
If all there looks fine - it is most likely a defect card.
I strongly doubt that it could be a faulty game but I guess you could always try to install it on another computer altogether and check.
So I'd zero in on your graphic card as the main culprit.

List of Possible problems/solutions:
1. my graphics is otherwise perfect in windows. i also play other games on this computers and they work fine. i even tried playing NWN2 on this computer and the colors looked fine. (well..of course i couldnt run it well..since i dont even meet the min requirements for nwn2).
2. i dont have another comp to try this on, but i can try it on an external monitor. but i dont it helps since it clearly isn't a monitor problem.
3. i do have the newest drivers for the chipset and the video card. newest XP SP2. directX 9.0c. and so on.
4. graphics setting is already at low. Even all the loading screen, start up menu, character creation screens are green.
5. i rechecked my control panel for display, including advanced tabs. EVERYTHING is at default. Overlay is NOT turned on. colors are all default. (Heck, if these settings are wrong, then my whole windows should be green right? but only NWN turns out to be green)
6. im really suspicious because NWN demo was also green when i ran it on an older computer. (it had a much older video card, but im not sure what it was)..How can both these computers have the same problem..?
I will try reinstalling the game. but in the meantime. I'd like more feedback. If this is a problem i've had before on another computer, I doubt reinstalling would do much.

I've never heard of a game being "faulty" in the manner that the graphics were affected as you experience.
It isn't a monitor issue, I'll be pretty sure of that.
Then there is only the graphic card or settings. It's been a while since i had an ATI card, so I can't remember excatly how the control panel works, but IIRC then you could make a profile for games (even specific games), and my bet is one of these overrule your base settings, or that your card is faulty.
What happens if you run dxdiag with the graphics tests, are they also "green" or are they normal?
What happens if you run something like 3d mark to test your settings.
No other game displays similar issues?
You do not have a friend, where you could install the game to check it out?
It is not the overall game, regardless of whether a demo you had once where green as well - it can at most be an issue with your single copy of the game, or another factor. And the fact you had the issue in a demo indicates to me it is a graphic card issue.
It could be a compatibility issue with NwN and your graphic card, although I doubt that as well, as it shouldn't manifest itself in the problem you experience.

Thanks to Siberys, Sinbad and especially Xandax!
Problem solved. Its my own stupidity apparently. I hope I haven't wasted your valuable time haha. I fixed the issue although Im still confused in some aspects.
atiptaxx.exe (ATI Control Panel) needs to be running in the background.. However, I *was* able to access ATI Control Panel from Settings > Control Panel *without* having atiptaxx.exe running in the background. I did manually disable atiptaxx myself a few days before installing NWN.
I disabled it because I was messing with msconfig and I researched online and I saw one user's comment that said atiptaxx.exe has a tendency to slow computer games to 1 frame per second every once in awhile. I had the 1 fps issue with Icewind Dale2 at the time so I disabled atiptaxx and I havent experienced the lag in IWD2 since then (or maybe it hasnt come up).
I have pentium 2.39GHz and 1 GB Memory so I have NO idea why I experience the 1fps problem in IWD2. I asked it in gamebanshee forum but no one answered me. Maybe someone here can answer me.

Good you found the error and no worries - it's what we are here for. To share what we know and possible help others, so they'll stay and share what they know. Although it seems strange that the cause gave such an effect indeed
As for your IWD 2 question, then if nobody in the IWD2 section could help, then I doubt people who frequent NwN can. I've not played IWD2 myself (never even finished the first), so can't point you in the general direction
Perhaps try to post the question in the Tech support section, because it can be it is a more general question, and not IWD2 specific per se.

Okay, I know this doesn't belong here, but I had a similar problem with IWD2. It's actually a game setting. For me, it was running way too fast. Go to All Programs > Black Isle > Icewind Dale II > Icewind Dale II Configuration. Then, on the menu, go to Game. There is a slider that controls the frame rate, under AI Options. Mess around with that. It solved the problem for me.agc28 wrote: I disabled it because I was messing with msconfig and I researched online and I saw one user's comment that said atiptaxx.exe has a tendency to slow computer games to 1 frame per second every once in awhile.
