Assassins

Post by ronniejamesdio »

What would be the best bet towards making a good assassin? I'm a big fan of archery so of course i'm picking marksmen. But what else should i pick to go with it so I am able to instant kill people, yet still hold my own?

thanks, ronniejamesdio

Sneak is about the only other must-have for an assassin. The game is pretty good about letting you develop unique tactics based on whatever skills you personally prefer using. There are also a lot of threads on here about character building (and assassins specifically), but I'm a huge Dio fan myself so I didn't just give you the stock "try searching the forums" answer :)
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

I've never understood why people choose the security skill I always use alteration instead because you get unlock spells and tons of other stuff like feather and shield

that character would also be very hard to use if something went wrong and an enemy got in close range

and one last thing when i have an assassin character i reckon the best kills are the ones with close combat weapons with sneak you can get massive damage bonuses you end up doing 6X damage with sneak with a one handed weapon or 3X with a bow

because its way easier to sneak up on someone if you just have to get within bow range sneaking within stab distance is way harder or at least thats what I think

i usually play a assassin named champ on oblivion he is a woodelf and the assassin class he is is the one alrdy made it isnt custom but you should def get blade and if i had it to do over i wouldnt make security a main skill because once you get skeleton key which is easy its usless and goes up to fast so makes you level faster than should but other than that your fine i dont recomend hand to hand for a main skill though

I play an assassin at the moment, as well. Though my theories are slightly different.

My main builds are:

Wood elf
Birth sign: The Mage
Class: Custom "Hitman" - Stealth Agility/Strength

Majors:

Illusion
Armorer
Hand to hand
speech craft
Conjuration
Marksman
Light Armor

Not your typical assassin, right? But I assure you he'll be stronger, in due time, than any other 'assassin' build. The Idea being CONTROLED training. Backwards, yes. But it works (I found the idea on the web). The 'major skills' don't get many bonuses from the class selection. But if you wish to max out your character, in terms of attributes, you want your levels as low as possible to start. In this set up you can determine when you level, to max out your bonuses per level.

It would really depend on what your more into??? like if u like to get the job done with no risk, no questions then id go with long range, such as a marksman...but if your like me and love marksmanship, but still like to get down and dirty and enjoy the thrill and adrenaline of a kill (in game of course lol) then i would also go with *Blade* so u can use some nice daggers...other then that i would go with, security (easy entrance to a marks location) and sneak (so the last thing they feel in their life is a arrow or blade enter their body) ummm any other skill is really up to you

for like your attributes or whatever, id go agility for sure, and i dont know about the other one, maybe speed....

as for your birth sign id go for the shadow personally...invisable for 60 seconds can be pretty nice at times....

Alchemy is a must for a major skill, i don't care what class you want to be. it's the most practical skill in the game. you can make some very powerful potions that make using magic seem silly. i'd also go with armorer because, although its really annoying to go through hundreds of repair hammers, you can repair weapons and armor past 100 to make them better. if i would have known this, I would have picked armorer as a major instead of something else. lesson learned.
and yes, security does suck. im a level 80 security and I must have gone through 1000+ picks. i dont think i will ever get it to 100. speech craft sucks as well.
in my opinion, you need blade or blunt. ive maxed out both skills and recently picked up a bow. even with the best bow, a decent enhancement, and poison potions, it still is hard to bring down difficult opponents. and with sneak, you are much better off trying to sneak up for 6x damage than 3x from an arrow.

one more thing. dont pick speed. I find that at level 65 or so, you move too fast and miss chests, plants, or other things that if you were slower, you would find. go with endurance. your health goes up by 1/10 of your endurance every time you level. get your endurance as high as possible right away and you will laugh at the bad guys.

I would say to pick the following skills.

Marksman
Blade
Conjuration
Mysticism
Acrobatics
Hand to Hand
(pick one)

Hand to hand insn't necessary, but don't pick sneak, it is useless and makes you level way too fast. You can easily train it.

I would go with the following

Race: Dark Elf
Sign: The Shadow
Attributes: Agility and Speed

Blade
Marksman
Alchemy
Illusion
Sneak
Security
Light Armor

Works like a charm.:mischief:
