Problems installing.

Post by Manshoon »

hi, this is kinda weirdo...

i just decided i wanted to replay the game as a Gangrel, so i took it out of my games shelf and i installed it. no strange things here, no iso, no cracks, no patches, nothing, just a vanilla, unpatched vampire bloodlines ver 1.00. whoa, nice. i ran through the game and in some days i arrived in Chinatown. actually, yesterday i talked with Gary, quicksaved, then i exited the game and went to sleep.

today i decided to go on, but here starts the mess. i double click the game icon and immediately the antivirus (AVG free edition) warns me that the exe file is a trojan. i laughed, then digged around the net. yeah, it seems AVG sometimes gives false positives because of its euristhics. no problem man, i turn off the euristhics and run the game. same ****. this time i didnt laugh, so since i was feeling lazy, i decided to go with a new installation of the game - i mean, if it stays with me 2 weeks, like the first installation, i can easily finish the game and place it another time on my shelf, happily taking dust on there.

all right, i uninstall the game, then i reinstall it. sadly, the damned bastard pops out an error message a few moments after i get nines concept artwork on the screen:

"Error reading from file: D:\Setup\Data\vampire.exe. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

hm, i think, lets ignore it and manually copy the exe file once the installation is done. ladies and gentlemen, i cant even copy the friggin file on my HD.

now, i am patient and all, but what the hell? i looked around on the net and i didnt find something relevant, so i just figured i should ask instead of going nuts. maybe some of you know about this problem, why it happens and the workaround.

Wait a day or two, usually the false positives are kicked out with another update of the virus definitions. Had a similar problem recently, took a day for Bitdefender to figure it out, now it's working properly again.

If you don't wanna wait, you could close the anti virus for the time being. Disconnect from the internet if you don't want to run into trouble for the time you are playing the game.
