getting out of water

This may sound silly, but I just bought CE last night - never played the game before - and I cannot figure out how to get out of bodies of water. I've looked over the controls many times, and either I'm missing it or it doesn't tell how to do it. Anyway, this is extremely frustrating for me, as I cannot move forward, and I'm loathe to have to start again unless I absolutely have to. :confused:

get close to the ledge, then press the "jump" button.
