Annoying as hell Bug

Post by the.blode »

i'm just playing for the first time through the non-tutu Baldur's gate 1, which so far has been great. I've come to Cloakwood, though - and run into some Wyverns, which aren't tricky to kill but continually screw with me. Baby wyverns are no worries they just die like anything else - but upon killing a full grown wyvern, without fail the program will freeze up. This will be followed by an error message and then the game will close.. I've tried numerous times to find ways around this, but in the end I just really need to be able to kill these things without restarting the game.

Any help?

Try the standard stuff first.

1. Patches
2. uninstall/reinstall - Its a drag but sometimes it does the trick.
3. Have a look at the Baldur's Gate forum over at the Bioware website.

First thing I tried was the uninstall/reinstall.. didn't do the trick.. I've also now downloaded and installed the latest bioware patch, along with a couple of fixes none of which has helped at all.. I'm beginning to get REALLLLY frustrated by this, I've spent a good part of the day trying to make this work.

Any other help?

I remember having read about this problem somewhere. Doing a search (official bioware site, BG forums) should lead to a solution.

Check this Bioware forums link out:

BioWare Forums: crash when sarevok dies

And this:

BioWare Forums: Wyvern crash

It indicates that when you about to smoke the beastie for good, look the other way.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

ahhh, thanks guys

That last link looks like it might be the ticket..

Another strange bug I've noticed is that when installing baldur's Gate, if I select the custom install the install wizard says that NONE of my three harddrives have the 2.5G free disk space required for a 'full' install. 24.1Gb becomes about 100mb, 2.6Gb becomes 2Gb and 16Gb becomes 2Gb.. If I go back through the install wizard and browse other directories, the HD I'm trying to install on (24.1Gb) disk space will fluctuate 50mb or so from the 100mb previously stated.. this is ENDLESSLY frustrating, particularly as when selecting recommended install no such problem comes up. I encountered this error in trying to deal with my wyvern crash by using a full install and the Tutu engine.

I get the same problem everytime I install the game, it says I don't have enough disk space. However I just click ok and it will full install anyway
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

This is what I did the first time - I thought it was just an issue with the install wizard. At first I thought the Full install had worked fine, but upon trying to install Tutu, the application reported a lot of missing files. Also, there were area files missing in the game which caused a lot of crashes.

You can just copy the missing files from the cd to your installation folder. They should be in the data folder on both media. As simple as that.
