SoA Script Error Message

Post by Ariona »

I've been playing BG2 for a while now, and I'm working on the Jaheira/Haer'Dalis quests when I encounter an error message during a small-time battle which reads:

An assertion failed in ChDataTypes.cpp at line number 250

Then, I get kicked out of the game and I have to reopen the game. I don't know what to make of this, and is there a way to fix it? I just got a newer computer with XP, a much faster processor, and a TON of memory. So I know the processor speed and the memory are not issues. Any suggestions? :(

Hmm...
How new is your computer? Did you have this problem with your previous machine?
I'm wondering if maybe it's a driver compatibility issue or something..
The serious techies here should know more though.

And, probably a redundant question, but just to eliminate possibilities, do you have the final official patch and either the Baldurdash or Gibberlings 3 fix pack?
Often these will help solve a lot of bugs.

Also, since it sounds like it might be a scripting (rather than driver) issue, do you have any mods installed?

The computer itself is only a year and a half old...I completely 'flattened' the hard drive before I reinstalled the recovery discs. So, there was absolutely nothing but the original software on it when I actually started putting my stuff on it.

It's an Emachine with an AMD 2200+ Athlon processor (1.8GB), 256MB DDR, 60BG hard drive.

I don't understand it though...why would it let me play this far into the game before this error message came up?

And as far as the patches/fixes go, I used the one you gave me the link to about 3 years ago...
