Unofficial Patch 4.0 is ready!

Post by Wesp5 »

Hi everyone, just to get my hands free for the soon to be released BioShock ;) , the unofficial patch 4.0 is available from filefront as RAR archive right now (vtmbup40.rar - FileFront.com) and later from The Patches Scrolls : game updates, patches & addons - We have them first! as the usual ZIP file from which it will be mirrored.

This is a big one because as suggested I searched once more through all the files for hidden stuff and found a lot :) . I managed to restore two new items, one as a occult powerup (based on the famous Pearl of Dubai) and the other as a small quest item (just a chewing gum). I restored lots of unused models from the rat crowd over several item models to three large vehicles. I restored some newspapers and the missing Romero after the cemetery quest. I finally managed to repair all cut off conversations and even restored a completely unheard one at the warehouse. Additional to that there were a lot of bug fixes and as usual, any gameplay related changes like the new items will not appear when using the basic patch! See the changelog below for details:

v4.0 17.08.2007
----
Created Appearance powerup and made Isaac give it instead of Charm.
Made Strauss reward you with the Fae Charm instead of usual money.
Recovered chewing gum to sell to Copper and stashed it on the pier.
Restored rat crowd to warrens and ancient text to Leopold Society.
Placed library keycard at Ramen and fixed some minor text problems.
Moved dogs into junkyard and Skelter to Nines' side at one ending.
Swapped cop Anacondas with Ithacas and made Pisha leave eventually.
Restored Romero to be back after his quest and fixed zombie scene.
Fixed cut off conversations and restored a hidden one to warehouse.
Restored hidden models to Dane, to Blood Hunt and on junkyard map.
Made armor absorb half the aggravated damage and raised Blood Heal.
Removed cop cars from the Santa Monica pier after the police left.
Added Fu Syndicate emergency doorcode and restored tire iron skill.
Recovered three unseen newspapers and repaired a newspaper mix up.
Restored two item models and renamed "Replica Katana" "Shin Gunto".
Made Mercurio's email arrive later and fixed several email issues.

Repaired warrens electrical terminal computer and fixed many props.
Added some missing inspection nodes and made diner cook move more.
Restored warrens door difficulty and fixed switches at observatory.
Fixed Tong sounds at Zhao's and Hannah, Milligan and Pisha issues.
Repaired Trip and Vandal not choosable at endgame in special cases.
Re-changed Eliza and Thistle effects as they didn't work randomly.
Added missing doors to Venture Tower rooftop and Blood Hunt levels.
Fixed several name issues and explained others using loading tips.
Changed Giovanni vampire guard stats and restored Dane crane icons.
Turned your Santa Monica haven into Elysium area when Jack visits.
Improved Barabus' hack position and made PCs accessable afterwards.
Corrected Chunk's brother's subtitles and changed Chunk dance fix.
Reformatted Sin Bin inventory pages and fixed more minor PC issues.
Removed humanity for killing Milligan directly and fixed card bug.
Placed Russians more inconspicuous and removed the two added locks.
Put Heather's name in the morgue file in case you left her to die.

Couple of questions. Is this 4.0 patch written by the same people as the 4.01, 4.02, 4.03, 4.04 etc?

I noticed on the 4.04, that it is not compatible with the others (have to completely install the game from scratch to apply the patch).

I assume that is not necessary with 4.0?

Now another question and comment (I got a "no" answer from the other forum on the 4.05AT patch).

Here goes:

In these patches can dialog be added or do you have to stick with what's in the game?

I ask this because a really good addition would be to add different options regarding Heather. I always hated the current options of either keeping her with the result of her being killed or rudely telling her to split the scene. Would be really cool if some other options were available.

Like for example;
Tell her how much you cared for her and that you would find her again when this was all over (maybe even telling her to go to a specific place to wait for you like with Jack from the Anarchs or something).

Telling her something like the above and giving her enough of your blood to last her until you found her again.

The chick kinda gets a raw deal the way it is now.

Would have been super cool if the original game would have one of the ending scenes (the one with Jack next to the fire) with Heather also sitting there waiting for you. I'm such a romantic!

I can answer you.

NO, the patch designated as "4.04AT" or any other patch with "AT" in its suffix have no connection with Wesp5's mods. The "AT" in the suffix stands for "Acrimonious and Tessera," the producers of the patches that you've asked about. Our patches are not compatible with any of Wesp's work.

I hope this clears up any confusion. :)

It would be possible to do something like that but I don't know if I should do it. Maybe I could add it for players with 10 humanity only or something?

I understand your notion but that is out of the question. She wouldn't fit in that scene with Jack and the cabbie at all, even if it was doable from an editing point of view.

P.S.: I now added the following line for characters with a humanity of at least 8: Heather "I'll leave... okay? But if you ever change your mind-" Player "-then I'll find you, I promise." I think this is as far as I will go ;) .

Yeah, I knew the scene change with Heather couldn't be done, I was just wishfully thinking.

The dialog change is better than nothing, at least there is a different option. Would have been cool though of the notion of sending Heather to Jack for protection. That would have been a riot. No one's gonna mess with her then heh heh.

I appreciate your listening to ideas. Thanks

But that wouldn't work out if you broke with the anarchs...

Yeah you're right. Jack would still be cool with her even if the player didn't side with the Anarchs but a way would have to be figured out around that.

Okay, the moderators warned us not to move the "patch flamewar" to another thread but I'll just like to rectify a concrete patch detail for Mike89 and everyone else interested: The restored Heather ghouling sequence is included in the latest unofficial patch 4.0 and was exactly that way since version 3.3 from 11.1.2007.

What exactly is the Heather ghouling sequence? Wasn't she already a ghoul from the time she drank blood from the wrist in the hospital?

Yes, but in the original release there were a few unused lines missing before you can give her your blood which I restored in my patch. My first try was line after line which was too long so I combined two of them each. That's how it was from 3.3 on ever since...

Since you've asked, I'll clarify this issue a bit for you. It just depends on which version of the game you're playing. In the True VTMB Patch, for example, the "Ghouling Heather" sequence is different, longer and more complete than it is in any other versions of the game. In Wesp's version, it's much shorter and more simplistic, but on the other hand, Wesp has added all sorts of other stuff to other parts of VTMB that we haven't touched. If Wesp's changes appeal to you, then I doubt you'll miss the Heather scene all that much. It's nothing major, really-- our version is just a bit of added roleplaying that we resurrected from bits and pieces of unfinished content, for those who enjoy that sort of thing.

That's not true. If you compare the first 30 lines in Heather.dlg (which present the ghouling sequence) of the unofficial patch with those of the "true" patch, you'll see that they are exactly the same (except for the wording of the answers). So they will play out with exactly the same length and the same complexity.

Tessera, you were already asked not to respond to any thread of Wesp5, and he the same, for yours. This was just a few days ago, by the site owner, and allowed no exceptions.

Since you don't agree, you're under temporary ban. Feel free to contact Buck about this, so something can be arranged that allows you back in.

I don't think there is much left. There are two more unused male NPC models but it's not yet clear if MooCHa from Planet Vampire will be able to fix them to work inside the game. There are three more unused stats which just crash the game when included and which wouldn't have much use anyway. There is some cool dialogue of Knox and Arthur which can't be used because the storyline changed. There are several references to planned weapons but none of them is hardcoded to work. Otherwise I searched through the game files quite thoroughly for 4.0 and added everything that I found. If I missed something, please tell me :) !
