One step closer to figuring it out...

Now. I turned off this User Account Control thing that stupid Vista has.
WOW! I could finally save my .ini file!! I restarted cpu and then restarted SOA. NO saved files to load. I came on here to see if there is anything in the forums. NO saved information for me (like all my accounts on any site- I'm totally logged out of.) Turned UAC back on and - poof! -they're there again and my saved games are back, but when I cntrl space, it just pauses. Okay... Turn it back off and my saves are gone, but I get the dialog box when I cntrl space. ARGH.

Anyone know of any way I can find my saved files and transfer them over or something??

/rant on
WHY OH WHY does Vista suck so much? I gave it a chance, I really did, but it screws you at every turn from the smallest things like setting backgrounds to, jeez, everything else.
/Rant off.

I haven't got Vista, but a friend of mine gave me this info so that you can make it work like XP.

Using Windows Vista Compatibility Mode :: the How-To Geek

I was having problems with XP but when I installed it on a drive without windows it worked fine.

Thanks, I tried that in one of my first go-rounds with the file. Turned on read-only, turn it off, turn on archiving, turned it off... Turned it to compat for XP for the file, then for the whole game...
I just have the User Account Control off for now and restarted the game ( :( ), playing a mage for the first time (which is fun so far).
Oh the pain...
