Trying to understand character building

Post by Spiderman »

Hey all. I'm just trying to get the hang of character building in this game, this is my first "round" playing.

Here's my Character so far.

Level 10
Human Male
Adept

Fighter's Guild
Marauder

Now.. this means that I have 3 slots taken up in the "classes" section of my character menu. It's my understanding that you can have up to 5? So that leaves me 2 slots right?

Cause right now I have the option of becoming a celestial or a paladin. I am planning on going the celestial route because I love using the celestial spells. Does this mean that for my last slot, I should technically have the option to become either a Stargazer or Deathlord?

If I can technically only join one guild (which is the fighter's guild for me).. is it possible for me to become a stargazer?

Am I impeding myself by going this route? My character is a decent melee fighter (which is necessary in this game, lol).. but I like using the celestial and nethral (or whatever it's called) summons. The ability to wield magic weapons is also useful in my opinion.

A little help?

if you want to become a stargazer, which i don't particularly reccomend, you need to quit on the fighter stuff now, and do the quest for celestial, then stargazer. i think celestial magic is kinda overrated, but if thats what you like...
a deathlord is still capable of casting magic just maybe not as well as you'd like

yeah well I was thinking of still completing the celestial quest but then concentrate on becoming the Deathlord. I wouldn't be the strongest fighter, BUT.. I'm hoping the Celestial magic would give me an edge.

This is my first play through so I like the fact that I can dable with a little bit of everything (decent rogue type skills like inspect, disarm and stealth). Summoning Rats and the undead has been fun when I feel surrounded by enemies.

I guess "adept" was a good class to pick if I was gonna do that.

For a melee character, I think rune magic is the most useful. Most of the rune spells enhance a fighter's melee combat ability and his/her defense. I also like dabbling in nether magic because of the summoning spells.

I think you can almost forget about the "decent rogue type skills" like inspect, disarm and unlock; Inspect I got fairly high, but disarm and unlock only up to 3, I think. Chests up to 4 I can do with ordinary lockpicks, for 5 and higher I use Crystal of Time, and since you intend to go the Celestial way anyway ... I know it is a bit tedious, but so is opening a low level chest at a high level disarm-skill.

If you want deathlord I would take paladin. Otherwise its gonna be a long time before you get the requirements for deathlord. I like to earn all 5 classes ASAP so the learning bonus kicks in earlier.

Stargazer/Marauder could be decent with dualwield fighting and lots of celestial magic.

I made Wizard/Marauder and the character absolutely rocked.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Actually I ended up going for the Paladin. I'm currently going through the Trial of the Elders and I'm loving the tons of EXP I'm getting. :D I only have the last trial left to go through.

So now I only have one class left to chose from and it will be deathlord. From everything I've been reading about this game, Melee fighting skills seem to be the most important to finish this game successfully (the first time around anyway).
