Aerie - decent cleric/mage. Too few Hitpoints. Spit on her and she's dead.
Anomen - Good cleric.
Cernd - Did not use him except to finish his quest.
Edwin - Did not use him at all.
Haer'Dalis - My char was a Skald so I did not use him.
Imoen - Decent Mage, Decent Thief.
Jaheira - Liked Insect Plague and Fire Elementals. Thought she sucked other than that. Personal preference.
Jan - Did not use him.
Keldorn - Did not use him.
Korgan - Did not use him.
Mazzy - Did not use her.
Minsc - Good tank. I used him a lot in BG1 also (played it many times) so I just feel more comfortable with Minsc along.
Nalia - Did not use her yet.
Valygar - Only used him in Sphere and was thoroughly unimpressed.
Viconia - Did not use her.
Yoshimo - Does not seem very motivated to join in the fight. Good thief though.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you on more than one point: Minsc.
Aerie is a great mage/cleric just keep her away from fighting. Anomen sucks and I hate him. And Imoen's great too. She's able to pick almost all locks and traps in the game which is enough for me, and she's also a good mage. Except for that it looks like you have used practically none of the NPC's and then I see no point in posting a post like this.

Well let me see if I can explain it simply enough for you to understand then Hannwaas.
I have played through only one time, so you are right, I have not used most of them. I am interested in all of them though and so I posted this. I posted it for discussion, I clearly stated that in my post.
My apologies for not making it simple enough. I will try to dumb it down next time.
Cheers

Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

AERIE-good for rp, nice mix of spells, turning that can destory
ANOMEN-decent cleric, dropped him in favor of Aerie and Viconia
CERND-good druid, nice werewolf ablities and spells, dropped him since i already had two druids (pc+jaheria)
EDWIN-best mage, didn't use him much though
HAER'DALIS-one of best melee in game, name one warrior that has a stat draining weapon and posioned weapon, can cast _stoneskin_, can haste/blur, or make himself almost impossible to hit, many times per day, on top of all this he almost elimiates the need to pay to identify an item/cast spell, and he can hurl spells too boot
IMOEN-kept for rp, changed to a sorceress with shadowkeeper
JAHEIRA-nice mix of a fighter/druid, usually would have her be a fighter/avenger druid with shadowkeeper, excellent rp with a male 1/2elf druid
JAN-best long-term thief in game with good custom items
KELDORN-paladin+holy avenger, need i say more?
KORGAN-nice fighter, bad interactions with some npc's though
MAZZY-very, very nice little fighter with free haste, str, and healing
MINSC-3nd best tank(after everything that can stoneskin/ironskin with a decent ac, and charmies) fun rp
NALIA-carbon-copy of Imoen, dropped her after keepquest
Valagar-nice tank/scout, katana's
VICONIA-best priest, with humanflesh armor 85% magic resitance best mage killer
YOSHIMO-best thief in game, short term though

minsc - absorbs all the damage along with my fighter PC. deals out a good deal of physical damage using lilarcor/elven long bow
jaheira - nice combo of might and magic. insect plauge is incredibly good, and she is a useful healer too
viconia - very good cleric, most useful character in my party. combine her with crom faeyr hammer and some tough armour and she deals out and absorbs a lot of damage, at the same time as having great spells such as heal, gate, firestorm, etc
aerie - underated by many people. very good combo of mage and cleric, providing massive magical damage to the enemy (cloudkill, delayed blast fireball, flesh to stone, summoning, etc) and providing healing and support to the party, plus undead killing with priest spells
imoen - you need a thief really, and combining one with a mage is quite handy for the extra magic. although she may not be as good as yoshimo as a thief, the magic more than makes up for this
thats my party, and i never used anyone else apart from yoshimo for a bit.

Aerie does not need high INT. just use a few potions of genius, besides Virconia is evil and does not fit in a Good Party, that is what Amomen is for.
Nalia, sorry but her thiving skills are horrible and Imoen is a better mage since Imoen does have a extra spell slot but she is not a especialist mage, and there is no diference of the levels that Nalia/Imoen/Edwin can get on the game, so since even the Int score is the same for Imoen and Nalia and Imoen is a better thieft and have that extra spell slot.....
INT can be higher for a time by using potions that raise INT score, making all spell castes being able to learn all spells (unless they are especialist since they cannot learn oposite school spells) in the game.

Aerie* - Good mage with some nice Clerical skills as backup. Big bonus being that you can get her very early, thus she's never behind in levels. Can turn undead too, though not as well as Anomen (or so it seemed to me)
Anomen - Pain in the ass attitude, not the best fighter, but not too bad if you want someone to go for blunt weapons or want the best in turning undead.
Cernd - He sounded so dry and boring that I haven't touched him. But after seeing him turn into a Greater Werewolf and rip that Shadow Druid to pieces, I was sorely tempted. By the time you meet him though, why would you want to get rid of Jaheira? Her equipment should easily be able to match his Werewolf.
Edwin - He is the mage. Haven't used him much beyond a quick mess around, but for spells he can't be beat. Plus he's funny. Get him if you can.
Haer'Dalis - Never really used him, though he looks OK. Get him, go to the Promenade with him and Jaheira. Laugh. Dump him.
Imoen* - She adds more spells as well as handling the trap side of things. Bonus, she's a main plot character. Well worth bringing along, and the cheerful voice brings some much needed relief in the Underdark
Jaheira* - Great charcter, bringing some much needed no-nonsense attitude to the party. You can take her AC really low, as well as using that great Iron Skins spell. She can branch out into either sharp or blunt weapons. She also has the best romance, plenty of interactions (and advice), and she was with you in BG. A must have.
Jan - He wears a dress. I used him while Nalia had been taken prisoner, but he didn't impress me. Useful missile skills however. People who find Minsc funny will probably lap this guy up however.
Keldorn - Haven't used him at all.
Korgan - Haven't used him at all.
Mazzy* - Brings some amazing short bow skills along, good for stopping mages from casting (until they all cast stoneskin when they see you, but that's what Breach is for right?). She talks to a lot of the townsfolk to. I liked having her along, and you can put her in the front lines too.
Minsc* - Good fighter, and that's about it. Nothing subtle about this guy. Can whip out a bow when needed.
Nalia - Irritating voice and a poor thief. She makes a nice Mage, but I'd trade her in for Imoen when you can.
Valygar - I was a Ranger, so was Minsc, I thought a third might be overkill . I used him for his subquest though, then dumped him. The brief glimspe I got of him, did not impress. He was too similar to my character (Ranger, going for two long swords).
Viconia - Haven't used her yet.
Yoshimo - The best thief, and can lend a hand in a fight if needed. You're probably better off sticking with a Mage/Thief like Nalia though.

Drakron,
Aerie's Int does affect the spells she can memorize initially since I was using Nalia as my primary mage and Aerie as a backup and I didn't have any Pot. of Genius for a while. Besides I like the Nalia better since she's a specialist mage and she gets that extra spell. And yeah Nalia's Thief skills do suck, no argument there.

Nalia is a normaldual class thief/mage, like Imoen.
And she does not get a extra spell slot.
Imoen does have a extra spell slot not Nalia.
And INT does limit the mumber of spells that a mage can learn.

Hmmm... I must be the only one here then who uses her for close combat.
She is one of my tanks.
AC -8, STR 19, hp 53 - not to bad I would say
oh, and she has a ring of Gaxx, and a bunch of immunities.
With a Sling of averon and bullets +2 she is awesome at ranged (takes down clay golems alright) and in close combat (I give her a nice mace) she also does alot of damage. normally between 9 and 16 points per hit for the mace and 12 to 18 for the sling.
The only thing I don't like about her at the moment is that she isn't immune to domination. Only my palidin is.

Aerie - cleric/mage. The Exp Cap hurts her at higher levels.Somewhat of a whiner.
Anomen - Good cleric.Bad attitude and brags till he becomes a member of the Radiant Heart
Cernd -Too uppity..possible weakest NPC.
Edwin - Best mage... Evil to the core and a problem for good groups.
Haer'Dalis - Weak at the levels I had him in my group. I took him to be a smarty mouth.
Imoen - Mage,Thief. Good all around thief and mage..
Jaheira - One of the most valuable members ...Healer and Fighter...with insect plague.
Jan - Did not use him yet.
Keldorn - Decent. Never used him much.
Korgan - The killing machine...drawback...Evil.
Mazzy - Did not use her yet.
Minsc - Another valuable member...no brains but a good sword will get him thru.
Nalia - Copy of Imoen..minus a spell and some thieving abilities.
Valygar - Only used him in Sphere.
Viconia - Did not use her yet.
Yoshimo - Best thief...should had been evil.

"Vile and evil, yes. But, That's Weasel" From BS's book, MD 20/20: Fine Wines of Rocky Flop.
My opinions, listing only NPC's I played with for at least two levels:
Aerie: a great conjurer/healer. Good for making sure you have at least one spell for every circumstance.
Cernd: Didn't like him. Thought he was useless when not in werewolf form.
Haer'Dalis: difficult to play but worth it. Begins combats casting spells against mages, then goes into offensive spin to bail out struggling frontliners.
Imoen: Deadly with the cloak of mirroring, unstoppable with a staff of the magi.
Jaheira: very strong in the early game, gets some 5th and 6th spells before clerics of same exp even though she's multiclass. Later in the game she improves only if you keep giving her good magic.
Mazzy: without a doubt, my favourite fighter in BGII. Not just an archer, with a girdle of hill giant strength she is slightly better than Minsc at same levels in both melee and missile.
Minsc: seems to get critical hits constantly, and has great dialogues. Somewhat slow (unagile) and stupid. Good for one thing, really - BUTT-KICKING EVIL!!
Nalia: she ends up in my party a lot 'cause she's the easiest mage to grab at the start. Only strength I can see is that she'll be ahead of every other mage except Edwin in level. Haven't played Edwin yet, but I'm sure he's the best mage. (ie the others ain't that great).
Valygar: a severe disappointment when compared to my own Stalker, who *could* backstab with his proficient weapon.
Viconia: possibly the best spellcaster in BGII (IMHO). After 13th level clerics improve fairly rapidly and regularly, unlike druids (esp multiclass druids...stuck at 13th forever...). By lvl 18 I was totally in love with Viconia. Only drawback with her is alignment, vis-a-vis spells like holy smite. She will join a basically good party; I found her aligment unrestrictive in terms of compatibility. I hear she don't like Keldorn very much....
Yoshimo: great character, good story, very tragic role... other than a PC thief, he's the only option for exploring set traps and detect illusion abilities. (Perhaps I'm underestimating Jan - even multiclass thieves get skill points every 440 K exp, right?)
P.S. They should have put a monk or fighter/mage in there, someone like that Githzerai dude from Torment.

P.S. They should have put a monk or fighter/mage in there, someone like that Githzerai dude from Torment.

Aerie - good cleric/decent mage. Can turn undead, cast 7th level priest spells, and beef up as a decent tank in melee. Having less than 60 hit points is a burden, however, as a Power Word: Kill spell will put her out of the action.
Anomen - Good cleric. Can turn undead better than Aerie, and can master with warhammers. I had Aerie, Jaheira, and two rangers, so I had enough healing power on my own to ditch Anomen.
Cernd - Worthless. The werewolf shapechange isn't enough to warrant having him in your party. Jaheira can reach the same level as Cernd can as a druid, and still retains her fighter abilites.
Edwin - Best mage. A specialist with high intelligence, and extra spell slots. Doesn't get along with Minsc, however.
Haer'Dalis - Gimme a break.
Imoen - Good mage and thief. As a thief, she can do the two things that you really need a thief for well: picking locks, and finding traps. Can max out her mage class. Looks like a modern punk with her pink hair and black leather mini-skirt.
Jaheira - Good fighter/druid. My personal favorite character. Treat her right, and she can be quite a tank. Insect plague, heal, iron skins, conjure fire elemental, and fire storm are also very useful spells. Definitely the most rewarding romance.
Jan - Decent illusionist/thief. Like Imoen, can pick locks and find traps very well. Being a specialist mage also gives him a few advantages. Ultimately, I stuck with Imoen because she's a better mage.
Keldorn - Unless you're a paladin, you must be nuts not to have Keldorn in your party. Carsomyr is worth it. With gauntlets of dexterity and a girdle of hill giant strength, Keldorn makes an awesome tank. True sight, dispel magic, and protection from evil are also useful.
Korgan - Arguably the best fighter in the game. Doesn't get along too well with Aerie.
Mazzy - Good fighter with some decent short bow skills. Short bow of Gesen, anyone?
Minsc - EVIL, MEET MY SWORD! SWORD, MEEEET EVIILLL! How can you not love Minsc? With naturally high strength, he can forego using strength increasing items. With Lilarcor or the silver sword, he's a beast. Berserking also makes him immune to some of the more annoying spells. The Heartseeker bow also gives him a good ranged attack.
Nalia - Helping others, and doing good things. Basically a weaker version of Imoen.
Valygar - Decent stalker. A good choice for a backstabber, since virtually all the thieves in the game stink at hiding in shadows.
Viconia - Best cleric. Her low strength somewhat limits her. She doesn't get along with Keldorn, so if you plan on using Carsomyr, either make a paladin of your own, or ditch Viconia. She's kinky in bed.
Yoshimo - The game's only single-class thief. Ultimately, he's a traitor, which puts him out of the picture in the long run. Too bad.
Anomen - Good cleric. Can turn undead better than Aerie, and can master with warhammers. I had Aerie, Jaheira, and two rangers, so I had enough healing power on my own to ditch Anomen.

Leaving roleplaying issues to one side and rating by main class (Mage/Cleric/Fighter/Rogue)
Aerie - 2nd best cleric, low H.P.s are a REAL problem
Anomen - Best cleric, once a member of R.H.
Cernd - 5th Cleric - Leave him shapechanged to a greater wearwolf or just leave him, worst druid.
Edwin - 1st mage, he is evil for a reason.
Haer'Dalis - Bards are an aquired taste and he is a poor advertisement - worst rogue.
Imoen - 3rd best mage, bonus theif stuff
Jaheira - 4th Cleric - Best Druid, while not exceptional in anything Jaheira is a good allrounder
Jan - 1st Theif - Slow advancement and low H.P.s - Only NPC Theif who can increase in skills to endgame.
Keldorn - 4th Fighter - Carsomyr wielder with special equipment supplied - Consider a special weapons expert.
Korgan - Best Fighter in the game.
Mazzy - 3rd fighter - With magic enhancement a good fighter.
Minsc - 2nd Fighter - I am certain that the game gives him additional bonuses (any confirmation from experts?).
Nalia - 2nd best mage - theif skills next to useless.
Valygar - Worst fighter - bad stats, bad kit.
Viconia - 3rd cleric - she controls not turns/kills undead, not as useful as first you may think AND you still have to kill them to get the exps.
Yoshimo - 2nd theif - Bad kit, other problems.
Which would make the best M/C/F/R party - Korgan, Anomen, Edwin, Jan! Now that's gonna work - Curdis
