Going for Weaponmaster

Post by Dragonheart II »

Hi folks,

As i wanna play NWN2 ASAP when i get the game next week i already think about char. creation.

Is it possible to become a Weaponmaster with the following mixture?

-DROW
-8 Levels of Fighter
-5 Levels of Rogue
-7 Levls of Wm

What´s the best divertion of the abilitiy scores for this kind of build?
Are there any penalties for special skills of either class in case of using some kind of weapon, or armour.

My idea is to have some kind of strong backstabber (criticals!) which can also use ranged weapons and has a wide variety of skills too.

Well, keep in mind the Drow is penalized by I think 3 levels (or 2), meaning without cheating in the OC you won't reach level 20.

I like the general choice of classes though, I've done similar builds. Remember as well that a gap between non-favourite (by race) classes will give you an experience penalty.

Damn but not reaching Lvl 20 is a disaster because the Weaponmaster will not reach Ki Critical.....thats almost the main reason to grab him......in this case i will go for either Assasinn or Shadow Thief of Anm with more Lvls in Rogue. :(

Race for WM

Another 2 cents' worth.

WMs are dangerous and renowned for their criticals and Base Attacks. They hit hard and they hit hard often.

Criticals are simply the multiples of your attacks. Which means that str is important. And many times, WMs wear heavy armour. So I think elves are not really good races for WMs. They have weak CON and high DEX.

Drows especially have that +3 lvl adjustment.
The only class that can reach WM easily is the Divine Champion and the Fighter, because the feat requirement is steep.
Also, you only take 7 lvls of WM.
If you really want a non-human race, I suggest you take the Aasimar, the half-orc or the dwalf.
1) 8fighter/4DivineChampion/7WM
2) 4 fighter/4DC/7WM/rog....whatever,
3) 12fighter/7WM/rog...standard issue...

I find that the feats you need are pretty much the same unless you forgo the advantages of feats which add to critical hits.
So when you want a WM, it's pretty straight forward.
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

Remember that the largest portion of the games is played with you at sub L20 anyway, so making a build which "requires" L20 could easily be boring for the rest of the game, because you just are waiting to reach L20.

If you really want to go for a Weaponmaster, I'd see little actual reason to take that many rouge levels, if at all, which will enable you to reach the WM aspects you want. The Frenzied Beserker for instance have some nice feats which are fun thrown into the mix - such as Supreme Cleave.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say, is for your first game (couple of ...) try not to get to hung up in a L20 build, seeing as you'll have to go through L1 to 19 first, which take up the vast portion of the game. :)

Well you are rite the Drow is not suited for that build and also not for Multiclass.
I just realized that i did not play NWN at all so i will hang with NWN 1 for a while.
When starting NWN2 i will play with a Single Class Drowish Rogue going for an Assasin or Shadow Thief of AMn.

A few good feats

Yes, very true. We spend most of the time sub 20 anyway.

Fighters, FBs and Barbs are very front loaded classes - most of their good points are within the first 4 - 8 levels which is essentially Chapter 1 of the OC.

Within those levels,
you can take a few good feats to make a difference.
1) Weapon focus,
2) Weapon Specialisation
3) Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack (No attacks of opportunity!)
4) Improved Critical

I will leave out Cleave unless you going FB, you have Khelgar with you anyway till you reach Neverwinter.

So, within Chapter One, you have a pretty solid melee character.
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.
