Hey guys,
ya I know, I'm kinda bombing this forum with questions atm. Sorry for this :>
This time it is a quite simple one however. I just rescued Imoen from Spell hold and have been teleported to the dungeon below. She rejoined my party, so I want to drop Jan Jansen who acted as a substitute for her until then.
The problem is, when I remove him from the group right there, he offers me to return to his tower in the slums, but the only response available is "Sorry, that's just not possible, you'll have to wait right here. We'll pick you up when you're needed again"(something like this)
Well, I do not actually plan on ever re-intergrating him into the, but should I somehow change my mind, it would be kinda difficult to get him out of the Spellhold Dungeon. Can I get him to return to his tower in the slums somehow? Or will he return there by himself automatically, once I've finished spellhold, etc.?
So long,
Sol
Dropping Jan inside Spellhold *spoilers*
Jan will not return home if you leave him in spellhold. At least, my Jan didn't. It's quite logical - the prison is, well, a prison. Think how many problems your party had to get out? I never dropped anyone else in there, but I did drop Jan, and he was lost for the rest of the game.

There's a bug that sometimes lets people actually go home, but the way it's supposed to work is that you've got to leave somebody there. The exception is Imoen, who can get out on her own and go to the Copper Coronet (which makes ya think, why didn't she do that before?) ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)

never go back
I often pop back into Spellhold after I have finished the quest - I want to check I have got the treasure etc.
Is it not possible to leave another party somewhere in a building - perhaps dropping them without letting them reach you to do the goodbye/meet me dialogue - popping back into spellhold and recruiting Jan until you get out -dropping him and going back to where the other party-member is and saying 'don't go'.
I have done that kind of thing when there have been difficulties if you dump somebody.
I first did it in BG - where Khaled - Jaheira's other half, turns out to be a die-easy coward who wastes a spot in the party. I used to dump him and never go back into the building so Jah would stay in the party.
I think it also worked with a couple of joined at the hip NPCs in BG2 - might have been Minsc and Aerie or Aerie and Haerdalis after they got together. it could even be Mazzy and her squire.
if you need to lose only one but MAY want them back later on - rather than stripping them of all their armour and sending them to the front or detonating a fireball after they have been turned to stone - dropping them with a few doors in between works to avoid your inconvenience.

I'm pretty sure there's another way around this..
I'm almost certain that in one of my games I released Jan while in Brynnlaw town, and he successfully returned home.
You should, therefore, be able to let him go just before entering the prison thus creating a spot for Imoen, should you so wish.

Letting him go in the town will definitely work. In the dungeon, he'll be lost.dragon wench wrote:I'm pretty sure there's another way around this..

To confirm, I just took Jan over to Brynnlaw with me and released him in town. He happily wandered off to his Athkatla turnip stall, perfectly content.Klorox wrote:Letting him go in the town will definitely work. In the dungeon, he'll be lost.
So, with Jan, at least, there's an easy way to retain access to him. I've no idea if this works for other NPCs, however.
