Ok Ive had a look at the classes and if Ive got it right I think I found a path that suited me but I wasn't sure if I could do it.
I wanted to go fighter > mage > samurai > shugenja > Hatamoto
Im not sure how progression works so any help is much appreciated.
I wanted a melee character that could chuck out a few spells now and then. The only thing I really want to keep is the samurai class if changes are needed. Going to be human if that makes a difference at all. And its the collectors edition.
Thanks

That sounds cool, but the problem is you can only join the eastern track on one of fighter or mage. So if you are a samuraia you can't be a shugenja and vice versa.
Hatamoto/sorceror or Hatomoto/battlemage is the possibility you might want?
Samuraia/Wizard would be good. I played Marauder/Wizard and I had enough fighting to conserve spells for the optimal situation but say if I got surrounded by 20 ninjas I could just smoke them all with one blast nova since: arcane learning bonuses + spellfire = 1 shot blast nova (on typical enemies)

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
You join the guilds first. Be careful you don't join the adepts or thieves guild because you can only have 2. Then they will give you a quest like bring an item somewhere. Once you do that you can ask if you have the requirements to do a second tier quest. You need str int and things like that. After completing the quest you get the second tier.
