Can a FMT make a decent tank?
Can a FMT make a decent tank?
I've got an elf FMT with maxed powergaming stats, taken from BG1. Can she act as a decent tank, or am I in trouble if I stick her in that role?
TIA

Klorox, a normal mage can make one hell of a tank.A FMT can make a reat tank, especially at max level... although a mage will always be better.

Stoneskin, find familiar, mirror image, protection from elements and protection from magic weapons. Add to this the fighter's constitution and hitpoints means some serious buff power.
Though mind you all these buffs are rarely needed.

I'd say that while all the above is true, you don't even need to have good stats when there are so many items around such as gauntlets of dexterity, girdle of * strength, and the ring that gives you 18 charisma etc. Of course if you don't need them for yourself, it means that they can be distributed elsewhere in the party.

Shapechange (Greater Wolfwere), Stoneskin, Improved Haste, Chain Contingency (Tenser's Transformation x3), Spell Trigger (Tenser's Transformation x3). For a mage at least. Go with the spell trigger for FMT.

I consider it as legit. The only reason you can't recast them is because it "changes your mindset". I consider it perfectly legal to cast six at the same time as the change occurs instantly.

As stated multiple times before, you cannot backstab with the Staff of the Magi or any other weapon that a vanilla thief without UAI can't use.

I didn't say backstab, I said "smack", as in "attack using the weapon." Don't get high and mighty, reading things that aren't posted; if you're going to critique, make sure you read the post correctly first.Crenshinibon wrote:As stated multiple times before, you cannot backstab with the Staff of the Magi or any other weapon that a vanilla thief without UAI can't use.

Now now, no need to get hostile there.
I was to assume that it was backstab due to the "sneak" that was included.

Cren, if you'd been more tactful it wouldn't have been that big a deal. However, the tone of your reply was one that you should consider before using again. If I said to you something along the lines of "As has been discussed many times before at GB, let the moderating is for the mods, not other members", you'd be a little annoyed as well, right?Crenshinibon wrote:Now now, no need to get hostile there.

@original poster
Have you figured out how you'll play the FMT? They're super-versatile and I'm curious if you're going to be melee or ranged, buff or sneak or something else, etc.

mixed feelings
the FMT gets an exceptional number of HLAs from all 3 pools - the big problem from my POV is that the mage requires a lot of xp that is shared with the fighter class which is in effect maxed out.
I found that because the level of the mage part took so much time - I wasn't really using that part so much and it was not terribly different from playing a FT with UAI having been reached (always my first choice of HLA).
the buffs are all there, but for a mage to out-perform a high level fighter, the mage needs the high-end spells - with FMT, those are seriously delayed.
I suppose filching the deck of many things and getting 1,000,000 xp would help though...

The FMT does not get any abilities from the mage pool. Also, I believe that they cannot cast level nine mage spells. For this class though, I'd use the mage part for buffing and protection. The only reason you'd take this class is if you wanted to play a fighter/mage AND a thief/mage.

There is a patch or a tweak that allows the extra level 6, 7, and 8 HLAs to be picked.Crenshinibon wrote:The FMT does not get any abilities from the mage pool.
