When we lived in Louisburg, North Caroline, we quickly discovered the annual Whistler's Convention. Now that we're in Cleveland, we're near the town of Avon, home to this.

My cousin use to come down and buy cases of the stuff and then take back to the wilds of Alaska......apparently he used a lot of it up there....

This also brings back memories of my father, who when told by my mother he needed new cowboy boots, his old ones were dreadful...he came back in a while with both boots firmly wrapped from sole to top with duct tape... :D

There's a small town near here that has a contest also, last year I was impressed with an old sofa that had been covered with multi-colored tape and there was also a tux made of duct tape.. :D

I love these crazy festivals.

My dream since I was in middle school has been to go to SPAM Jam in Austin, MN.

Young children will dance with excitement while the older generation will sit in amazement at the technology.

So, Fable, did you miss this opportunity? :)

Alas, yes. What can I say? I'm so ashamed. :speech:

No worry. A little blush enhances complexion. I am just wondering about the amazing duct tape technology that causes the older generation's legs to buckle.
I assume you are planning to attend next year's Duct Tape Event? :)

Btw, I thought duct tape had more to do with serial killers and bank robbers than with festivals and technological marvels (unless the marvels were explosive).

With any luck, I will be able to get UN grant to tape it for posterity, and sell the DVDs on Amazon.

That is likely because you are unaware of the philosophical import of duct tape. It has a beginning, and an end. It is nearly invisible unless you know what to look for. It is extremely flexible, yet can bind any number of things together, in nearly any number of ways. It also has a dark side, and a light side. In fact, it is identical to--you guessed it--the Force. Except that it would be ineffective to say, "Let the Duct Tape be with you."

I see your point. Indeed, the duct tape ultimately holds the world together. Yet, I percieve more Darkness than Light in a roll of duct tape that invades my personal space. Its obstinate refusal to unroll and propensity to cling at an innoportune time are prodigious. Or maybe I am just more sensitive to the Dark Side of the Tape. I need to meditate on this, now.

Good idea. While you meditate, I thought it best to put up some more information drawn from the official Duct Tape Festival website, reporting on their last annual do:

Hosted in Avon, Ohio, proclaimed “Duct Tape Capital of the World,” the festival boasted traditional favorites along with a few unique and sticky twists. The weekend-long event brought duct tape creativity to life as duct tape artists displayed their hand-crafted adhesive attire for all to see. Kids and adults were able to try their hand at crafting under the teachings of duct tape sculptor, Todd Scott, and pass the time listening to the taping tales of The Duct Tape Guys. The final show to hit the Main Stage was the Duct Tape Fashion Show, featuring a variety of duct tape high-fashion designs.

By "high fashion," I presume they mean Italian models parading across a catwalk in flexible bodysuits made from ducttape. Art and sex: this is clearly a classy event.

...duct tape sculptor, Todd Scott
I suspect they misspelled his name:Todd Scotch. :)

I think it was more like the cowboy boots and tux BlueSky mentioned. But it could be both -- a model wearing a clinging "little black dress" and a pair of cowboy boots. Duct tape haute couture.
