Updated to Version 1.10

Post by Master Htiek »

I just updated to the latest version of 1.10 for NWN2. While playing in the previous versions, the camera mode was set so I can adjust the angle and follow the main character and spin the camera. Now, it seems I have one option. A some what angled top down view that does not spin. I find the new camera modes combersume. What can I do to get back to the previous modes?

Hitting "*" on the numberpad is default to change between strategy mode (current) and character mode (desired). I have a laptop without a numberpad so I had to go into options and change the button to something else.

I am having the same exact problem with patch 10. In previous versions the camera would scroll when I moved the mouse to the edges of the screen (right, left, up & down) but now it will do nothing when the mouse is moved to the edge of the screen (with just turn camera mode selected) or it will just scroll left or scroll right if scroll camera mode is selected (as expected). It is a real pain to have lost the ability to turn the camera to different parts of the room. It is like the playing area (both rooms and outside areas) are locked to north and stay there. Have tried all the options to get the camera to behave in turn mode as it did previously. Any suggestions?

Under Options you should find tabs for Stragegy Mode and Character Mode. Under these tabs there should all sorts of settings including a toggle for edge of screen scrolling and a slider for scrolling speed.

Yes, I have played with ALL the options available, especially the ones in the Stragegy Mode and Character Mode. I can get the scroll mode to turn on and off thru the Options but the Camera will NOT turn no matter what I do to the options. Nothing I do to the Options allows the Camera to turn and this is only since I loaded version 10. Are you running version 10 and does the camera turn (not scroll) for you when you move the mouse to the screen edges? I guess I will try have to to un-install the game, re-install and re-load the patches, as my next step if you have it working on version 10.

north up mode for camera

I also just updated to version 1.11. The camera is stuck in a north up mode only and will no longer follow my character. You can't come from behind and see what is in front. Bad design to the upgrade. Any ideas when they will fix it?

I doubt there will be a fix that can satisfy everyone.

I suggest getting used to one camera view that doesn't bother you too much.
They tried to fix the inventory by adding a "sort items" buttton. Ended up making things worse.

I played a LAN OC with frens. I was used to one camera view... and frens complained about inventory, camera view, baddies being too easy to kill (ESPecially when the PC companions are also all around...).

But they also admitted the game is fun, the graphics good and the characters deep.

My advice... get used to one camera view if you really want to play NWN2. Otherwise, find something else.... I recommend KOTOR2. Pretty good too.
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

I'm not sure if this will help but it works for me.

I found that the least frustrating camera mode is character mode WITHOUT edge of screen scrolling. I have the setting so that when I hold the Mouse1 button my character walks forward. Also, you can still look around by holding the Mouse3 button or holding 'X'.

This way I never feel like I am fighting the camera. If I want to look right, I hold down 'X' and move the mouse right. If I want to walk right, I hold down Mouse1 and move the mouse right.

Yes, I've noticed this idiocy as well and it annoyed me so much I shut the game down. I couldn't believe it, it is so horrid that all my joy for solving my game stopping bug just evaporated.

NWN2 is turning out to be a nightmare.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Thanks to Snipercom!! I have taken your advice and made the game work. I still like the previous mode MUCH better and wish they would re-install that camera turning mode at screen edge. That is the easiest mode to play.

My impression was that they removed all camera options except for driving and free and then renamed them "character" and "strategy". IMO - stupid change.

HOWEVER, I also found that holding [X] while moving the mouse will turn the camera in strategy mode. I have not found a way to zoom in or out except by using [Home] & [End]. I do not have a 3-button mouse so I cannot verify my feeling that using the middle button and moving the mouse will provide the same functionality as [X] and moving.

BTW - I do NOT like driving camera mode anyway.
It's better to be a live jackal than a dead lion, but it is better still to be a live lion (and normally easier as well).

Yeah, the newest update has been kind of a pain. I had the same problem with the camera view, but was able to fix it under Options, though I don't remember exactly how I did it. Sorry I can't help much, but I do know the solution is there.

Since updating, I also now have to turn off the merchant dialog every time I want to sell something. It won't save and apply my changes from one session to the next... a mild annoyance

I'm also having characters disappear, but that's a different thread. I hope they get the next update ready soon. It's a big enough bother that I'm hesitating to run out for MtoB

yeah it is annoying, but i can deal with it, you just gotta be patient, and the game is still a good game, but hopefully, a patch will come out soon and fix it.
