Help with anvil and cheydinnal mages quest (spoiler)
I have searched the forum for this problem and cant find it. on the anvil quest, i told the innkeeper i was a merchant, went to the room, the lady came up there to talk to me, and told me what to do, but when i go down the road toward kvatch, nothing happens. walked the road at all times of day and night, nothing. is there a specific time to do this? also on cheydinnal (sp) mages quest, ive done everything i supposed to, but when i go down into the well, there was the nirnroot just like it was supposed to be, but no body or ring or anything. ive gotten all the other reccomendations done save for these two, and i just want to go to the academy and finish this quest line. if it means anything i have completed the first part of the seige of kvatch. any help that could be rendered would be much appreciated as this is a very frustrating speed bump on an otherwise great game.
Thanks
Thanks
For the Anvil quest, I think you might have to rest in the room, if even only for an hour, for the quest to proceed. Did you do that before heading out down the road?
For the Cheydinhal quest, the body with the ring should be floating in the water to your right (not at the bottom of the well), and the nirnroot is to the left. If you've searched every inch of the place, then I don't know what's wrong.

update. i figures out the anvil quest ( i slept before she came in the room ) the other one is driving me crazy, i got my alteration up where i could use the water breathing spell and spent a half an hour swimming around down there, there is a green marker, but no body or ring or anything (except the nirnroot) is there no way to reset the quest or move it foward on xbox? it is to the point where i dont want to play if i have to start over again. it is really frustrating when a game maker releases a game without working out all the bugs first. it looks like 2 weeks of gameplay is going to be flushed if i cant figure this out. oh well guess ill play orange box till i can figure this out. thanks for the help.

Considering how this quest plays out, I think Salidin54 is correct, and you don't need the ring. After going down into the well, go back to the guild and talk to Deetsan. You will probably be able to finish up the quest.

A game as large as Oblivion is very hard to comb every single bug out of. People in the forum will be happy to help but outbursts will definitely not help in the least and will discourage people from wanting to help you. I did this quest last week and I remember that when you go in the well you swim right into a small chamber. If you look up there's a body pressed against the ceiling. Activating the body should advance the quest. If the body is not there maybe your game needs to be patched. I'm not sure how it's done on the Xbox but I'm sure you're smart enough to work out how. As for the Anvil quest, rent the room again and rest. You need to rest afterwards and not before the woman talks to you. This may be where you've gone wrong.

I apologize for my shouting in the earlier post. i did investigate the small room that you start in in the well, no body there. my biggest problem is that i do not have a lot of money to spend on games, so when i do buy a game there is a lot of thought that goes into it. I compared every available (and a few yet to be released) RPG for the 360 before choosing ESO. the fact that the game is very complex is irrelevant. when i drop $60 on a game, as opposed to waiting until it drops to $20, i expect, rightfully so, to get what i pay for, and that is a game that works. i could have bought eternal sonata or blue dragon or any other game for that matter and in retrospect, maybe i should have chosen another title, but i bought ESO expecting a flawless execution of the game, which should be the case with a console game, only to be disappointed. i really enjoy this game, it is just too bad that bethesda felt that they had to rush the game out and deliver a sub-standard product. i know from looking through this forum and others that i am not the only one experiencing problem with quests and other things in the game, and as i have come to understand, the pc version has a console to put commands in to force the game to advance. IMHO that is absolutely absurd. the practice of releasing games that have to be patched, or updated in order to work only shows that game developers do not care about the game itself, they just want your money. as long as people continue to buy these sub-par games developers will continue to release them. as for me, i am voting with my dollars, and bethesda will never again get my vote.
Can't help you with Cheydinhal quest but I recently redid the Anvil one and I slept for a little bit after she came into the room but no luck. After this happened a couple of times without luck I decided to sleep in the room for a whole day. This did the trick because as soon as I got up I got a journal update. So I think that all you really have to do is sleep in the bed for a day and it'll work.
