Multi-Purpose Character

Post by Arok2092 »

Okay, I've played Oblivion for awhile but have stopped for the past couple of months. Now I want to restart but this time using a character that can specialize in anything. Basically I need help knowing what Race, and Skills I should make Major so I have the best possible all purpose character. (i.e. Good at Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild, Mages Guild, etc.)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have the game on xbox and while playing it, I've come to the idea it's best to put all the more commonly used skills. As for multipurposing a new character, I found that more challenging. I started off as a fighter (sword) - although you can choose any other wep to specialize in. Since i hoped to get into the theives guild eventually, I put Sneak as one of my majors - it also helps in tough fights ahead of time by dealing 3x more dmg. Next, to get more levels faster, I put in Atheletics and Acrobats - since throughout the game you'll be running & jumping anyways. (My choice) I also put Marksman cause I can't resist not plugging ppl with a few arrows :) - I forget total how many you can put as your majors, but Armorer is a good one to have - it'll save you ALOT of gold in the long run.

Finally if theres still more options left, depending on your preference of armors, heavy or light armor would be helpful. (I went with light armor as my major, easier to move in plus when at 'master' level you gain an additional 50% defense from all light armors.)

Also, alteration spell seem to help much. (opening locks - breathing under water - walking on water) Otherwise like I said earlier, it all comes down to what you plan on getting into. Best to plan it all ahead - cause - Evensince my guy has mastered much of his skills, I regret not putting a different skill other than Speechcraft. That 'mini-game' annoys me death!!! :speech:

G'd Luck :)

Edit: I also don't think a certain race makes that much of an impact - alothough additional bonuses are always welcome :) - I've always liked the Red Gaurd or those 'Lizard folk'
''White light beams through darkness, beset by immense haze over a few seconds followed by a loud cacophony. Motionless, the repercussion of your action strikes your feebled mind and senses. Still dazed, the intensity lingers that follows after tripping over your own sonic blind trap.''

Major Skills
Sneak
Light Armour
Blade
Restoration
Marksman
Alchemy
Block / Illusion / Conjuration

The last skill is up to you, depending on how you would rather fight. If you want to be more of a warrior, go for Block, more of a thief or assasin go for Illusion and more of a mage go for conjuration. It depends on your fighting style.

Sneak for the added damage against big baddies and because it adds another dyamic element to the game. Plus, you really need it for the Theives' Guild. Light Armor so that you aren't too heavily weighed down. Blade so that you can choose between a quick dagger and a sword (if the latter, make sure you pick black as well). No one should be without Restoration, it saves your butt a lot. Marksman because it helps you out a lot, especially if your armor is falling apart. Alchemy for poisons and for some money mixing potions earlier in the game.

IMO, I've tried doing 'mixes', but they never work for me because I never feel like I've specialized enough in anything. But I always play a pure mage... that's just me. :)

Heh i like using a mage character even tho i feel i cannot always get it done with only mage. i have a battle mage with blade. i use ice spells alot with paralyze effects. works good, also if you want to make a character good for multiple things then i would usually suggest the wood elves. it owns being short :) .
suggested set
marksman
blade/blunt
heavy/light armor
illusion(invisibility)
alteration(lock picking/water walking/breathing)
armorer
alchemy/conjuration/sneak/destruction/block(any of these)

i am using a multi purpose character, i guess, that has served me very well until now, i'm level 43 and i have practically have no enemy on the map to defeat me. actually i finished knights of the nine without need to use the holy relics.

I suggest a dark elf, with thief as birth sign and whitchhunter class. it allows you the use of magic, a good strength and others. later in the game, if you enchant your armor or jewelry with fortify attributes, like i did, nothing will stand against you. you may suffer at the personality level, but this can be solved with bribes and charm spells. actually i made a charm spell of 30 points of my own just not to have to pay bribes anymore. works perfectly. and another thing. this character allows you to level up very quickly, as it has alchemy, conjuration and mysticism as major skills. if you do that, like i did, without knowing that the enemies also level up, the best body guard is a conjuration spell for a storm attronach. in 40 seconds he does wonders, and if he dies, conjure another one. basically i was just moving around him and struck the enemy from behind just not sit around and also increase some skills.

Ragus Sword

These are two of my custom classes with the name i gave them.

this is a magical assasin, and levels up really quick. this is "Ragus Sword"

Marksman
Blade
Illusion
Mystycism
Light Armour
Destruction
Alteration
Specialize:magic
Favored Atributes: Int+Agil
Race: Dark Elf(classic Assasin:mischief :) , High Elf(mage assasin:speech :) , or redguard(warrioir assasin  )
If you are thinking, "what about sneak?", it is so easy to get up that it is not worth majoring in.
Ragus
Nosolves everyones problems. Example...
Guy1: Can i have a cookie?
Guy2: no!

It doesn't really matter what race is best suited for a multi purpose character. You can have all magic schools as your major skills and still be a proficient fighter, archer and rogue. Just as long as you are patient enough to grind up the levels.
