Please Help. Disarming Traps

Post by captshub »

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I cannot seem to disarm a trap even is it says I have a 99% chance. I have 5 ranks in disarming trap and have'nt been able to disarm the first one. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. captshub

It's a mini-game of sorts. You need to click on icons at the same time that the red bar passes through them. The more skill you have, the slower the red bar moves and the easier it is to disarm the trap.

Level 1 chests actually show the instructions for the mini-game, so if my description doesn't make sense, you might want to create a new character and then check out the chest near the first campfire.

Once you figure it out its easy. Try getting a crystal of time. That will slow time down and give you insane amount of time to get the hang of it. Its possible you just need a chance to get how to do it. You need two skills one to see the symbols maybe inspect? and another to slow the bar down (or use crystal of time like I said). Load up your character in multiplayer and practice on the chests in the beginning forest.

You can do it.

the bottom symbol u press bust be lit in the top. what i do is fid the starting location of the first symbol to be pressed if u look at the top it shows the exact order to press the symbols in, u have to find that order in the bottom and press them as they are lit

for example a level 1 chest
there are (i think) 8 symbols in the top
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

and two on the bottom
1 2

lets say this is the chest
85324176
12

regardless of the order of the symbols in the bottom you must press them in the order they light up in the top

in the above example when 2 is lit upress it then wait until 1 is lit u can only press 1 after u press 2 and only when 1 is lit

hope this helps if not

just use bash same thing happens except u dont disarm the trap and u dont have control over the pressing of the symbols

you get the chest open and take damage for it but most times not a lot unless ur an extremely low level character

I don't know if you figured it out

But what I'd do before quitting the game....IS

There is 2 trolls early on. You don't need to open any chests to kill the trolls. One is near the end of the theatre. Kill everyone then jump on the stage kill the ballista. Then shoot the troll with a bow you find on a goblin corpse (you should find at least one or a throwing knife or if your really desperate load up a thief they start with a knife). Kill the troll ranged.

Put 75% of the xp into strength and the rest into whatever.

Now go to fargrove. Somewhere is a troll chained to a wall with a circus man or whatever by him. hit the troll with your sword and then run and lead it to the guards. Hit the troll once and let the guards kill it. You can join in as much as you please, but as long as you hit it once you get ALL of the xp.

Now put even more xp into strength. By now you have insane strength for this early in the game and you can bash the levels of chests you will encounter. Later you will need more strength but by that time you can hunt moon beasts and level up as much as you want.

Anyhow once you kill the trolls and level up strength go back into the theatre and bash all of the chests. It won't matter what any thief skill is the chest will just smack open. I forget if the traps do damage but you will probably have 500 unused lesser and 200 unused greater healing potions in your inventory by the time you have killed 100000 elves and humans hahaha (5 crystals of healing might save potion use)

U mentioned that u need Inspect to see the disarming symbols. I don't think that's true. Cauz in the FGS, i was playing a female elf mage and i didn't have any points in Inspect, and i could see the symbols just fine. its just a timing thing. youll get it eventually. i had the same prob early on, 2.

With inspect, you can see the symbols before you start playing the mini-game, which allows you to plan ahead.
