Does it shut down or freez up

if its the former it may be a graphics problem go to options and lower your graphics settings

if its the latter just wait a few seconds(sometimes up to a minute) and see if the game frees up again

i can load Dlords and the saved game with no problem. able to move
around arindale at will. its when i try to enter the inn that the game
will shut down sending me back to the windows desktop. i dont beleave
the problem to be the graphics card because this is my second time
through the game and nothing happened before.

FWIW, my best guess is that something bad happened to the file containing the information for the inn. If that's the case, then uninstalling and reinstalling (and re-patching if necessary) the game would fix it.

Or, if you still have a saved from from your previous character, you could see if that character now crashes at the inn, too.

i loaded a save game previous to the game with the problem at the inn
and it worked just fine. no problem entering the inn. it seems the problem
is with the saved game itself. is this fixable or do i pick up with an old
save game and lose 161 levels? help!! going out of my skull

Sorry, but I don't know. I can't think of a reason why the inn would work with one character but not another.
