Getting Owned at the bank - Chapter 3

Post by Claudius »

Did I do something wrong :(

I am level 20 with albedo tawny owl, rubedo wolf, nigredo cat, crinfrid oil on blade (Huvall found amongst wyverns in swamp) + magic ritual bonus to signs

str4
dex3
end3
int3

heavy steel 2
light steel 2
group steel 3

various skills

I killed about 4 of them but those dwarves are a pain for lack of a swear word. They parry group style and if I pick them off 1 at a time they take till 3rd or 4th attack to drop and by that time I am surrounded.

I could probably win if I could kite but sometimes I get hemmed in and double clicks (to attempt a jump flip or twirling leap away) won't work and I'm just getting beat on.

Axii doesn't seem to work whatsoever which was a surprise as I thought now is my chance to use it..... I have maxed bronze Aard but that doesn't help. Forget about Quen and Yrden. Which leaves Igni as the only useful one.

I'm thinking of restarting the game on easy
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Don't see Blizzard listed in your arsenal. :)
Yes, seems that heavily armored enemies parry Group Attacks.
Try starting on Strong after downing a Blizzard potion, you can try the Group Stun on the first Sign we get, once Blizzard is activated.
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

Thanks I'll give it a try. How does group stun on a sign relate to blizzard by the way? I thought blizzard just slowed the animation down so you could 'play' more accurately....

So I was assuming it just made the YOU better at controlling geralt rather than making geralt any more effective.

I'm guessing I'm wrong ;) I might start over anyhow since I'm a chronic game restarter and I can fix my talent distribution to what I want. Hee hee I'm going to have a run on easy AND I'm going to use tons of potions etc :) I want to be lord of my own easy universe hahahhahahahhahah

You should pretty much be able to win regardless of your spec so do not respec/restart. (sure, it might be more difficult if you only invested in Intelligence or something like that :D )

You properly should try to dodge more and often, and not just wait until you get hammered or surrounded. This of course means you can't do series of damage and prolong the fight - however it can and will improve your survivability if used correct. Keep moving about, jumping out of the way after one hit and so on.
Also - don't use Group Style if you find that they interrupt your swings too much - then it is much more effective to use single target style. (I would think the scenario you depict, Heavy would be preferable, but try between Heavy and fast).

Also - for the record Blizzard improves parry and dodge with 50% as well - so it doesn't "slow down" animations.
However learning to play with Blizzard takes some practice, cause the game does indeed get very slow, and you must be careful not to click to fast.
Blizzard is properly the most useful potion in The Witchers arsenal in my personal view. It can make tough fights much much easier.

The Aard sign can also save you against these fights, pushing away one, stunning him and letting you either finish him in one blow, or giving you time to ignore him to finish off another.

Aard and stairs

I used the aard sign to temporarily blast them out of the way and ran to stairs about four steps up.
They can then only come at you one or two at a time and they are then easily beaten using strong steel style.
A swallow potion helped as well.

Well, I meant take Blizzard, then hold down Aard sign till fully charged and stun everyone, then you have Slowmo, Stun and use the Strong attack, to whittle them down, if need to take another Blizzard. :)

Yes, if your in for fun then usually Easy mode is best, most often Normal and Hard modes are more about challenge.
This game does bring out the restartitis, more than any I have played in a long time. :)

Thanks everyone. I decided to remake the character. This time no points in monster lore, brawling, heavyweight, Igni harm I, deprioritize a bunch of stuff etc..

I did get a win in the battle though. I used King and Queen bomb to make some space (which also kept Siegfried standing) then popped a Blizzard. It was pretty awesome!

I actually have another reason to go back to ACT I in that I think some of the intermediate dice players were in that act. Thaler and the Munro never want to play (and I love playing people who reroll their already winning dice and they are betting money :p ).

I restarted in medium...
