2nd NWN2 Expansion?

Post by Loki[D.d.G] »

So, how many of you think that Obsidian are planning to come up with NX2?

There is no proof yet, but merely some rumours circling around thier HQ. Still would like to know your opinion on what the storyline could/should be.

I'd rather them do campaign plug-ins instead of expansions, a concept that I loved about oblivion but it didn't quite work well for that game with how they implemented the features.

But plug-ins like NWN1 did with Kingmaker and Infinite Dungeons or something, adding a couple various new features but in reality just a new campaign to play.

And if they did make an actual expansion pack once again, I think they should concentrate mainly on prestige classes. Some of the classes they have now are nice, but mostly theme oriented and not combat oriented (which a game that's combat oriented doesn't make sense with this kind of thing). PrC's like Nightsong Enforcers, Tatooed Monks, Divine Crusaders, Geomancers, Mystic Theurges and Thaumaturge's, those kinds of classes that have a suitable combat and or core class progression feature.

I too would really like them to concentrate on the prestige classes, and hopefully increase the level cap once more to allow for more... varied characters.

However, I am hopeful that they could create more than just plug-ins because the stories they manage to come up with are nothing short of spectacular.

Really interesting if we could still advance the main character in the NWN2 series. Mind you, (SPOILER) they did leave a backdoor for just that on MotB.

Well, yes, basically what I said. Plugins like the ones in NWN1, where they not only introduced a few new features, but a completely new campaign as well.

Sorry, I never played NWN1. But did these pluug-ins relate to the OC or were they something completely new?

If they do decide on makin an NX2, I agree about more prestige classes need added. Although, concerning plug-ins vs. an official xpac, it wouldn't matter to me. If they do go with plug-ins instead, I just hope they stray far from the Kingmaker style bcuz it just seemed 'Home-made' so I never caught on to playing it.

And as for the storyline, I'd figure they should continue with a little bit of the left off history from MotB atleast; then mix 'n twist it up according to what the they plan on makin any add-on(s) about.
''White light beams through darkness, beset by immense haze over a few seconds followed by a loud cacophony. Motionless, the repercussion of your action strikes your feebled mind and senses. Still dazed, the intensity lingers that follows after tripping over your own sonic blind trap.''

Are you saying that they should continue the story from MotB?

Like MotB picking up where the OC left off?

Not so much as 'continue' the storyline, but begin with fragments of it (similar to how they handled the endings in NwN 1). Just link the beginning of the new story with some of what they left in MotB. Bcuz starting a whole new storyline w/o referencing a little from the last doesn't seem right. Atleast until they get 2 or more games away from the original then I'd believe a new story from scratch.

Example:
''With the curse defeated, and having to carry the Githsword no longer, you were free to go your own way and face what more challenges that awaited you.''

I'm not entirely sure how they'd work in a little extra detail...
Spoiler
adding in the (optional) marriage with Safiya.

Good idea. Maybe they can let us explore another campaign with all our former allies. (Spoiler) Maybe play in our child's shoes (if you have one with Safiya  ). Then we can have fun with Uncle Khelgar and Aunt Neeskha.

What do you think?

Let the main character hit the planes...Maybe like a search for his companions, who were kidnapped or stuff like that. I would definitly love to go and push my character even more and to somehow...I don't know, how to say..."finish" it right. Not lilke "you were doing great for some years, then you retired and finally died of age". Something like in BG2, where you can really choose, or like in Plancescape or I don't know, but just let the main character go with some words about his further adventures would be kind of disappointing.

Let us face the most powerful beings, let ss wander in heaven and hell, let us meet the beings, that lived for ages, let us search the planes in an epic quest for the sake of your companions!
I don't want to be known as the guy who defeated the King of Shadows and the Betrayer and then was never heard about, I want to go to the very end.

You know, Obsidian may have paved the way for this. Dunno if I'm reading too much between the lines but judge for yourself. I quote: (It's a spoiler, so highligh to read)

You are not stong enough to challenge a God in his homeplane, yet ~ Kelemvor
Hopefully Obsidian will find a way to tie in the second expansion with occurences in the OC and MotB and round off any loose ends. :)

Yeah, I remember that sentence, it was kinda wierd. Then again, doing the almost same thing as in another Bioware game, well...I'm not so sure about it.

Its not exactly a BioWare game anymore. The development has fallen into the hands of Obsidian, the same is true for the OC.

Yeah, I know that, but Bioware already did this "player becomes god"-theme in the Forgotten Realms setting and thus I doubt, that Obsidian will do the same, especially since they are very well connected to Bioware/Black Isle etc.

Only a God? That's not good enough. Becoming more powerful than a God, now that looks like a good prospect. ;)

That would be a nice epic tale to tell. If Obsidian can pull it off. :D

I just saw this thread, and I gotta post my suggestions.

You're a high level character now, time to go to the respective gods of your former (dead) companions and demand to get them back. And if they're faithless (what the hell was Bishop doing in the wall? Don't rangers need a deity to get spells? :p ), well, time to visit Kelemvor again. ;D

Although a certain wood elf and a human female wizard might not get along very well.
