The Witcher Novel (Book 1) (No Spoilers Please!)

Post by Mz_Trixter »

Hey all, I've been getting more interested in the Witcher since it's been released. However I've decided 'order' and read the novel "The Last Wish" before actually buying the game. This way I'm somewhat familiar with all the settings. Plus, it's a series so yeah. So far it's a GREAT story!

At the moment I'm near the beginning of chapter 4 & still LOVING it!!! I was wondering, how many other people got the pleasure of reading it before actually playing? ...And what do y'all think of it? Especially since there's naturally more detail in the novels than the game itself.

I also don't plan on ruining the story for anyone else who hasn't read the books or played the game. Sorry for anyone who asks...
''White light beams through darkness, beset by immense haze over a few seconds followed by a loud cacophony. Motionless, the repercussion of your action strikes your feebled mind and senses. Still dazed, the intensity lingers that follows after tripping over your own sonic blind trap.''

I started reading it recently. I didn't get it before the game came out though as I wasn't aware of any translated novels until I looked into it after playing the game. I hope Sapkowski's "Saga" is translated in the not too distant future.

Same here, I ordered my copy some weeks after the game released. But it's just simply avoiding any of the spoilers the game might reflect from the novel. It's definitely worth the price if not more I think.

I'm also looking forward to getting the later novels to it. :)

First book of saga is scheduled for August 2008 (Gollancz). Unfortunately I haven’t found release date for the second novel “Sword of Destiny”. Last stories are introduction to events happening in the saga. You can easily skip all the stories but you can stumble on things like in game: You saved king Foltest’s daughter. I did?
I think all the books were translated to Spanish (almost all) and to Russian and Czech. So if you speak one of these languages you don’t have to wait. And it will be few years before all is translated (4-6). At least it took that much time translate to Russian (4) and Spanish (if they release last book in 2008 it will be 6 years).
It is not necessary to read any book before playing, but if you do, you will definitely like the game more.

the novels are good, but the Saga si even better.
it is excelent piece of wrighting, all the books are brilliant.
can compare it to Tolkien, but this world is much darker.
I love it, read through whole Saga.

The story in the game is actualy a sequel to Saga in the books, so I believe it's much more interesting to play the game after reading all books, which are among the best fantasy novels ever (imho).

I have read the whole saga prior to the game and I highly recommend it to anyone. The story is very captivating and there are many interesting twists. After playing the game I have decided to re-read it and haven't regretted. The characters' personalities are very strongly developed and most of the times the book makes you think on certain issues. Also I must mention that I really enjoy the author's humor, which is hillarious. If you are fantasy fan, this is a must read book.
