Where's the princess? (Spoilers for Underdark)

Post by Yamato »

I'm hopelessly stuck with a quest in the underdark and I really don't know how to continue the game. I was supposed to rescue Princess Phaere, the daughter of the Matron Mother from the Illithids. So I went together with Solaufein to the Illithid dungeon. I completed the dungeon, but all I got was some blood from the elder brain. There was no Drow princess anywhere to be found.

Solaufein is still standing at the door of the dungeon, but he will not talk to me except for saying that I'm not supposed to disturb him. I went back to Ust Natha and talked to anyone and everyone in the city, but somehow I'm not able to continue the game until I find that princess. Does anybody know where she is and what I'm supposed to do? Some help would really be appreciated here.

Thanks,
Yamato

Keep trying to talk to Soulaufien, do you remember if you were ever able to initate a full dialoge with him? Just stand around him and wait in real time and the quest should continue as normal.

He's supposed to talk to you. Then a group of Illithid's and Umberhulks + Phaere will appear. Try resting and then talking to him again. If that doesn't work, try reloading an earlier savegame before you got the Phaere Quest.

Well, thanks for your quick answers. I just tried out all of your tips, but none of them seem to work. Solaufein still won't talk to me and the quest won't start. The problem is I don't have a saved game from before the Phaere quest. My last saved game was in the Illithid dungeon and it didn't help to start from there.

I know now that the mistake I made, was to walk into the dungeon and not stand and wait beside Solaufein. It seemed that the Phaere quest expired while I was away.

Do you guys know if there's any way to get the quest started with a cheat? Or can I get Adalon's eggs without following the whole Solaufein/Phaere storyline? Or is there at least a cheat that lets me continue the game from an earlier point? Because right now it looks like I have to start the entire game from the beginning and that would be very frustrating. *sighs*

Thanks for your help.

I don't know the answer, but I'd try doing a search on eggs or Natha. The search engine is quite good.

There is a CLUAconsole cheat that will give you the eggs, but you can still enter Urst Natha and get the eggs from the temple.

Can't you kill the dragon? Sometimes we are evil due to tough choices I guess!

You can still get back to Ust Natha, kill the people in the temple, grab the eggs, and run for it. That is, if you are still looking like a drow. Because IIRC, if you spend more time than they gave you while doing the quests for the drows, a priestess appears and dispells the drow-look illusion of your party. It's quite weird it didn't happen to you...

Well, if you ask me your main mistake wasn't to walk into the dungeon. It was not saving in different slots at different times. Anyway, now it's too late.

I'd also recommend to enter the drow city, kill everyone and everything that moves, grab the eggs, and bring them to Adalon. You will be losing quite a lot of XP this way, but well... :> Also don't forget to clear all the dungeons for some additional XP.

Alternatively, if you're evil, you could just kill Adalon as well. But you'd lose even more XP this way. So unless you desperately want to get the Human Skin armor, I'd go for the drow city even if you're evil.

when I lack patience, I just slaughter every drow in the city - it may be a bit Charles Bronson, but it IS effective.

a beserker with boots of speed can inflict a LOT of damage...

...as can summoned Devas or Planetars.

A big thanks to everybody who took the time to answer to my problem. I really appreciate your help. *bows*

I managed to get the eggs from the temple and took them back to Avalon. Did kill a couple of Drow on the way, but since they attacked first, my ranger probably won't get any nightmares about it. Killing the dragon would have been a bit too evil for him, I suppose, since she's a nesting mother.

Well, thanks again and I'm soo not looking forward to fighting Bhodi. But I got Drizzt, so it shouldn't be too tough.
