Mods and Possible Conflicts?
Yes, yes... I know.. Yet another mod thread
Since I'm finally able to, at some point soon, I plan to reinstall Morrowind with some large, system-demanding mods... The sorts I've never been able to run before.
On my *must have list* (assuming they do not conflict with one another), in addition to the usual texture/model replacers are:
Wizard's Island
Mournhold Expanded
I don't think Mournhold Expanded will cause any issues, but does anyone know of any mods that absolutely cannot be run with Wizard's Island?
Also, if you have any recommendations, please shoot!

I seem to recall an old thread at Elder Scrolls discussing that Wizard's Island was incompatible with quite a few other mods, because of the large region it claimed that was mod-popular. The one I know of for certain is Silgrad Tower.
Regrettably, instead of disallowing identical threads, ES permitted them, suffered the abominable slows, and finally cut out their database for anything more than a few days old. So I can't suggest checking for this. You might post over in ES, in the Morrowind mods forum, though. Someone can probably give you the list.

and me .... trying to re-install with more.(New) mods..and having all kinds of problems....spent a day with tutorials on WyreMash, Testool, conflict detecting things, till my head exploded...
Am starting clean myself tomorrow....just cannot get MWLibrary, Balmora expansion, a Seyde Neen expansion, and MCA mods....along with numerous others....to play nicely
Man I really wanted to play all those together...
Oh well...looks like a day of a mod at a time and testing for me tomorrow.
Hope yours goes much smoother...

For Wizard's Island, it only lists Silgrad Tower.BlueSky wrote:......

I'm sure patches were made to move it. If not I think TR plan to release one. Another mod I recommend that you try is Tamriel Rebuilt. I think you'd like it.

Hey DW, how's the install going?...
Have worked with mine and got some of the ones I want working....
MCA was giving me problems, so not this time around....still tweaking a little, and wanting more...
BTW...I took your advice and looked at the texture packs I had..
Vibrant 1, 2, and 3,
Fantasy
Mixed
Darker
2 different visual packs
Ultimate 2 versions
and per your advice, with a little input from the daughter and son-in-law,
went with Vibrant 1.....

... you are evil
I looked into Wizards Island.
Seems it's rather big.
Anyone know if it run on..............>
RAM = 1gb @ 533mhz
Card = X800XL 256mb
Going to add more RAM in a month.
Or, is this more dependent on a better card ?
---------------
DW: glad you can add more mods
BlueSky: we're not having a race; slow down
Darn Fable had to get me started on mods.
Seem I download several each week

Addictive, aren't they? The only real problem comes from conflicts. Since I've been disappointed with the selection of mods thus far available for Oblivion, I'll probably start up a new Morrowind game in the near future (or resume an old one) with a few mods removed. I was having CTD's fairly regularly, and I think I know the culprits, too.joe05 wrote:Darn Fable had to get me started on mods.

Joe you could probably run any mod with a rig as good as that. You might even look at Oblivion if you haven't already. Morrowind is better though.

Thanks guys for the advice!
Once I get round to installing Morrowind. I think that in terms of quest/land mass expansion mods, I'll probably just stick with Mournhold Expanded and Wizard's Island.
Now I'm trying to decide which base texture pack I want to use... While a part of me wants to run something shiny and new, I keep looking at the brighter packs and thinking... "This just doesn't feel like me." *sigh*
So, I may well stick to something that feels natural to my play style. I might also look at Darker Morrowind, which would likely suit me well.
I'm also trying to decide on some of the more script intensive mods that breathe a lot more life into the world.. Any thoughts on Morrowind Comes Alive?
I think I'll check out those mods that enhance difficulty too, again what are peoples' experiences in terms of their stability?
Probably more creatures too...
*grins*
So, to answer your question Blueskye I'm still giving this thought while I explore the brand new titles I've bought.

Finally found the "map of mods" I was looking for. Galahaut's wiki entry is out of date, in any case, and his link was dead. Behold:
here.
Not perfect, by any means, but very useful.

Fable,
thank you very much for that conflict map!!! It's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.
It seems I'd also be able to run Glory Road with Wizard's Island, which is another mod I've wanted to try before but knew I wouldn't be able to.
Hmm... Though, it isn't always land mass conflicts that cause problems, so I want to be careful about installing too many massive mods.
@Bluesky,
*shudder* While I actually know my way around the innards of a computer reasonably well, I can also be a bit technically challenged... I have tried messing about with Wryemash, and I think I got it to work..sort of.. but I was never entirely sure.
Erm.. I'm hoping to avoid such tools if I can. Simply installing Morrowind with all kinds of mods is an entire day's endeavour... (also why I've been delaying the procedure, I just haven't had time)

a. learn how
b. actually get it to work....
ps Did Mournhold expanded last time around and didn't have any problems with..

Thanks for the page Bluesky!
I'm very strongly leaning toward Darker Morrowind at this point, complimented by most of Connary's releases. Given the strongly Gothic feel of DM and rich medieval look provided by Connary's textures, I think they will go well together.
I'm also going to install Swampy Swamps, probably some kind of sign replacer, and no doubt a lot of other miscellaneous textures that I can't bring to mind right now.
I've actually started downloading the stuff I plan to use... The quests/land masses mentioned above were the easy part, the rest is going to take a while... I suppose I could have just done a file transfer between my old computer and this one, but my MW folders there are disorganised mess, so I'm looking to achieve a new start here.
Besides, my hard drive is big enough so I likely won't have to keep them all zipped, which will make things *much* easier.
I'm still not sure when I'll install it all though..
This game takes such immense preparation you practically have to gear yourself up for it psychologically.. kind of like a major housecleaning or something.

I keep my zips in an archive and the actual mod unzipped in files..labeled textures, expansions, clothing mods...etc....
that way if in installing I need the original esp or actual files, you only have to copy and paste back....that really helped alot this past weekend....
and Yes, I'm still thinking of adding more...I'll PM you with the new list I'm running with comments about...

Indeed a chore, which is why right now I'm happy to break in the new comp sound system while downloading mods. We usually play music when housecleaning too
Yes do send me your list, I'm still slowly working out what I want to install. Like I said, the quests/landmasses were a pretty easy decision, but there are so many textures to choose from.. and then there are all the tweaks too... everything from Book Rotate to the mods that increase the difficulty levels... *sigh*
Truth be told, part of the reinstall is just that I want to see the difference in performance. I recall all those times I played with a crawling FPS, just wishing I could justify a better rig. Now though, I also have a couple of new titles, so it's a bit of this and a bit of that
Yup, I was trying to do that too, but then once I had them all neatly zipped and labelled I started downloading yet more mods, and since I had such low RAM, adding files to the zipped packages took forever, so I just started making essentially duplicate zips.I keep my zips in an archive and the actual mod unzipped in files..labeled textures, expansions, clothing mods...etc....

Well, I'll definitely investigate MCA then.joe05 wrote:DW: I like MCA.
Extra weapons ... more enemies ... more NPC's
A question, how interesting are the NPCs? Also, does it play nicely with mods like the LGNPC series? I always use the LGNPC mods because they add so much diversity to an otherwise bland and homogeneous population.
Equally, I may also install Children of Morrowind. So again, do all of these NPC-oriented mods work OK together?

MCA is great. It never fails to surprise me, in a very good way.
I'm pretty sure that the LGNPC mods were going some CTDs for me, towards the end of my last Morrowind trials. The dialog changes were overriding other new dialog created by additional mods. Your mileage may differ.
