Game boots me back to desktop

Post by oldbeard »

I've defeated Zeeaire and freed Shandra. We all return to the Sunken Flaggon where there a lot of dialogue threads then the game begins to load new areas but before it completes the game just shuts down and I'm back at the desktop. I have the latest updates and don't know what to do to continue the game.

Have you tried reloading from an earlier save?

I'm still in Zeeire's dungeon in my saved game. I've played through about 4 times from there and the end result is always the same.

Unless you have an earlier save than that, I don't know how to really help you. Must be a bug, but I've never seen one like it in these forums, i.e game crashing during that same instance. My game crashed once but that was well into Act II and I solved it by using an earlier save. Had to track back an hour to make the game continue.

Don't know if this will help, but installing the expansion, MotB, will fix plenty of bugs in the OC.

Hi, if you have a virus's program running in your background or other programs, exit them all and start again. If it still crashes then you might have a bug. goodluck

It has to be a bug. Im having the EXACT same problem in the exact same spot!! Im stuck now and cant progress any further. Im getting a little more than annoyed with this game. If a game is THIS buggy why even release it??

So the question now is, how can we fix it?? Are there any patches or updates that will repair these blatant flaws in an otherwise awesome game?

So, it seems to be a bug. Try updating the game to the latest update. That might help, but no guarantees.

BUG after BUG after BUG

***********Potential Spoilers***********
Hi,
Since this is my first post/reply I wanted to first say how helpful everyone has been to me just by reviewing the forum.
If it wasn't for people out there like you all- us un-computer savvy people would be screwed!

ok.. I have been having the same thing happen. I have just went through the portal where Jerro speaks to you and then tries to teleport you to the Inn (sunken flagon music- but to the inn at crossroads keep) everything loads, and shows updates 1 of 2 and 2 of 2, it's at almoast 100 % loaded and then crashes, to desktop.
I can tell you that I lost Neeshka, Khelgar, and Gnobar- with the bugs that others have reported, but never was able to go back to a previous save, so I continued on, and now it shows 2 animal ch. that I can choose from when on the choose party screen. ( Gnobar is also not in the basement next to the golem)- A friend has passed this area already in the game, so the dialog that is trying to load is the scene where all possible party members speak one after another.

*** my thought on this is that because I have lost 3 people as listed above, the story cannot continue on since I don't have them. And I cannot go back.
Unfortunately even though I have prior saves' I don't want to loose days and days of gaming!

Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

As for getting you companions back, I suggest looking here. The crashes, I'm not so sure how to fix, short of the aforementioned updating. Mind you using what was discussed in that thread can have some negative circumstances.

I just wanted to add that I'm suffering this problem as well, though not at exactly the same place. I've just finished defeating the Githyanki invasion of the Sunken Flagon near the end of Act 1. After Shandra is kidnapped and Duncan forces Bishop into my party, when I try to leave the inn, I load everything and then get bounced to the desktop. The recent update did not help, and I am now stalled on this game. I'm glad to hear, though, that it's not just me.

I see other threads posting similar complaints - I'm surprised this game-stopping one hasn't surfaced before!

I'm getting the sense that it's booting ppl back to the desktop mainly due to corrupt saved files, which also seems to be the reason for missing Npc's. It may also be a conflict with other programs, but we can only hope not. My only suggestion would be to save alot, save ahead & in different slots and keep trying previous saves. Even though it's more of work in itself. This would be the safest although very frustrating & demoralizing option.

But then almost everyone's game crashes some time or another. Im no exception.

Unless you know a enough about comp. mechanics & program files, going into folders/game data should be a last resort; lest you risk doing more damage.
