Help needed with TDD installation

Post by Midaer »

Hello,

First of all, I'm new to these forums. Tried searching a bit, but didn't find anything relevant to my question, so I've decided to register as last resort and ask for help. :)

Anyway, I've played BG II a bit too much - getting really bored of it. So, I've decided to try out some of the fancy mods.. First, I tried Tactics mod, but it was seriously unbalanced and didn't offer any joy for me to play, so I moved on to TDD.

That's where the problems started. All of the TDD installations that I have tried so far are somehow bugged. The first installation, which was the non-weidu one was bugged - It crashed on several maps. I even tried the 1.03a patch, but without any help.

Next, I've tried the Big Picture installation with the following install order;
TDD1.12 (that's the weidu conversion) -> TDD fix -> BP -> BP fix

No luck there either. Some of the dialogs and npc's were bugged, which rendered the game unplayable.

Next I tried just TDD1.12 + TDD fix, but that ends up with broken worldmap. The mod BP_BGT_Worldmap_v6.6.1.rar doesn't provide any help here either.

So, if anyone knows how I could play TDD without any bugs or problems, I'd really appreciate help. What is the correct install order and what mods do I have to make it work?

And by the way, I have bg soa + tob + latest patch, running on windows xp, if that's any help.

Also, if you have any other mods to recommend that would add much new content, I'm listening! :)

thanks,

Midaer

I would skip TDD altogether if I were you. Admittedly, it has the potential to be a great mod, and it certainly shines in certain areas, but I've never encountered a version that wasn't bugged. So if you want a completely bug-free SoA experience, TDD certainly isn't your cup of tea.

If I were you, I would go and search for a new SoA experience. A reasonably safe bet would be the true WeidU mods. The last couple of years, I've played with nothing but WeiDU mods from several sites which I'll list below and never had any real problems with them. You might also want the check this thread as it describes the mod wishes of another member. Be sure to read the entire thread, it might turn out to be quite useful.

As for the sites, I consider The Gibberlings Three, The Pocket Plane Group, and of course Wesley Weimer's WeidU to be solid hosting sites with top notch additions to your SoA and ToB game.

If you would specify what kind of experience you’re looking for (extra quests? dialogs? NPC's? improved battles?), we might be able to give you some less general advice and point you in the right mod directions. :)

And welcome to the boards!

You are not alone Midaer, I've been trying to get that mod working all week, tried about 5 times before giving up. I thought I'd cracked it at one point, picked up a couple of NPC's, Kagain and the assassin in the CC. Did his quests, but then the map that you get in the Gate district wouldn't work, and the dude that was supposed to be in the Bridge tavern wasn't there. Trie a re-install and all that succeeded in doing was trashing the game, forcing yet another re-install. A great soncept, but terribly implimented I'm afraid. Not unusual unfortunately, a lot of potentially very good mods are ruined by poor implimentation or excessive over cheesing.
