Potions of mastery thievery

Post by fable »

How many of these are there, in the game? I've never made extesive use of them, before, but on this run-through I figured I would let myself go. :D

IIRC you're using the Items Upgrade and Ruad mods, I also have been using them. I had enough to upgrade two items that used up (I think) 5 each, and that left me virtually devoid of them. I did then find the Dwarf in the
Bridge district sold 4 or 5, so I'd say, not many more than 15, but that was just in Athkatla, can't recall if any are on sale in Trademeet, Brynlaw (sp?) or the Underdark.

Bottom line I guess is defined by whether you want to upgrade those two items; the IU one was Kitrix the Spider figurine, the one in Ruad was the one that gives [amongst other things] +1 backstab IIRC. If you do then put ten (or 5) aside for that first.

Sorry I can't give you an actual count, maybe someone else can.

Your point's well taken. I hadn't considered the need for the upgrades, but it's a real possibility. I may consider the spider figurine, but that's it.

Probably the best bet (just the figurine) I never even finished SoA with the F/T/M that upgraded the +1 backstab items, the game was boringly easy. This time through (using Fade) I haven't used those upgrades, much more interesting.

There are at least 38 sold by merchants in an unmodded game:

2 - Ribald (restocked in Ch. 6)
3 - Arledrian (Gaelan's uncle)
8 - Gorch
2 - Mrs. Cragmoon
4 - Halfling cutpurse in front of Neb's House
2 - Roger the Fence
2 - Gnomish merchant in Umar Hills
3 - Khan Zahraa
4 - Caravan merchant in Trademeet
4 - Duergar merchant in Underdark
2 - Drow merchant in Ust Natha

The potion maker who lives in the Druid Grove doesn't have any Potions of Master Thievery, but she has 10 Potions of Power.

One of the Thief mods (I think it's the Rogue Rebalancing Mod) adds a merchant in the Shadow Thief guild hall who sells such gear. If the Item Upgrade Mod requires so many potions to upgrade an item, I'm a little surprised if it doesn't add a few more to the game.

There are a few more now that I remember:

Mae'var's Guildhall second floor - open all of the containers to find 3 more potions of MT and 1 of Perception.

Shadow Thieves' Guildhall - one of the tables has 1 potion of MT.

Trademeet traders had a few potions on sale too.

Irenicus' Dungeon - 1 potion of MT.

Don't forget that after getting HLAs your thief or bard might receive the Make potion HLA, which will provide you with enough potions of MT. Same true for the Wish spell.

Thanks for all the replies. It certainly sounds as though there are enough MT potions to satisfy every malcontent's needs. :)

Originally, I looked them up with Infinity Explorer. But I copied them from one of my notebooks last night.
