Party help

I am just starting this game and i was wanted to get some suggestions on what kind of party to make. I was going to start with a

human - paladin

half elf - fighter

half elf - cleric / fighter

halfling - thief/barbarian
I thought the barb would give him more hp and speed.

half elf - mage (nec)/ barb
for the same reasons or would a monk be better? how many hp does a monk get?

half elf - sorc/barb
same as above

like i said i'm just starting any suggestions

what do you need to reduce penalties in two weapon fighting?

There's a specific weapons proficiency category for two weapons. You just pop points into it, as you would two-handers, etc.

If you're looking for suggestions and haven't played the game before, I would urge you to consider playing one character and finding the others to try as you go. They pop up in unusual circumstances, almost always with their own interactions and dialog--occasionally even taking over party decision making (but not, alas, often). Working with them is part of the game's undeniable charm, in my opinion. But of course, the choice is yours.

The game was designed for creating 1 character and having NPCs join your party. But creating your own party can make sense, especially if you don't like being limited to only a few NPCs. The evil NPCs will leave once your party gets too heroic, the neutral ones will annoy you with complaints then and not even the few good ones are reliable. Some can suddenly leave your party, some might never be found and some might be unbearable for you.

But I wouldn't create a party of 6, I'd create 5 at most so you can at least have the joinable NPCs join for a second and take a look at them, even if you decide to keep none of them you'll at least have faster leveling and less micromanaging with a party of 5.
Bioware put some effort into the NPCs, they have more to say than self-created party members and some even have a little sidequest, so it might be worth trying a few of them.
Chances are high that you'll meet NPCs you like, some players liked Yoshimo's wise advice, some Minsc's stupidity, some Jan's ridiculous stories, some Aerie's vulnerability, Korgan's brutality, Nalia's nobility ...
Therefore I suggest creating only 2-4 party members which cover all you need in the game and won't have problems finishing the game even if you don't like any of the NPCs offered.
Imho the optimal 3 character party:
A halfling fighter/thief for thieving skill, a human ranger dualed to cleric right at the start for fast access to both high level cleric and druid spells, a human fighter dualed to mage at level 9 for the mage spells. All of them can fight very well too.

If you don't have roleplaying reasons I don't recommend playing a monk, he'll be weak for quite some time. Monks get the same HP like clerics.

PS1: If you create more than 1 character yourself it's beneficial to make the mage or sorc the protagonist.
PS2: Half-orcs allow 19 str and con, little races grant big saving throw bonuses, (half-)elves don't even get the bonuses mentioned in the racial description.
PS3: If you want a paladin, taking the undead slayer or inquisitor kit is worth it.

Judging by your character descriptions (e.g., thief/barbarian and sorcerer/barbarian), it looks like you might be expecting a game like Icewind Dale II which follows the 3.5 Edition rules of D&D. I suggest that you look at the class descriptions in the BG2 manual to get a better idea of what's available.
