Thieves guild quest (spoilers?)

I am unable to advance in the thieves guild because I can't complete the last few quests for Gentleman Jim. I stole Yngling's ledger and it was confiscated by an ordinator whom I accidentally talked to. Any advice?

He means the evidence chest where you were incarcerated.
