Where is Imoen if she was removed from party by adding Dynoheir?

She should stay where you left her.

When you remove an NPC from your party, he or she will stay right there. Exception: if your reputation score is outside the acceptable range of that NPC's alignment, then they will walk away and disappear forever.

I removed Jaheira from my party once, with a rep score of 20. She scolded me, collected "Mr. Whipped" Khalid, walked away, and vanished. (She's a demanding woman... for what, I don't know.)

Imoen will not leave on her own if your rep score strays from the acceptable range of the NG alignment. But I'm not sure what happens when you dismiss Imoen when your rep score in the gutter.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

I'm not sure f they'll wait in the same place forever. I seem to recall (a long tim ago so faulty memory could be at work) leaving Imoen were she first joins up, going back sometime later and she was nowhere to be found. I do know that Khalid and Jaheira will have vanished forever if you don't go to the Friendly Arms Inn fairly quickly. The first time I played the game I simply couldn't get past the assassin at the FAI, and when I went back later they were gone. I've noticed on every subsequent game that if I don't pick them up early in the game you can never get them. I'm not sure what triggers their departure, whether it's a simple timer, or is triggered by talking to the mayor type character in Nashkel (sp?) or clearing the mines.

Ah yes, I have seen posts around here in the past, describing a trigger-event that removes J & K from the FAI.

The trigger-event might be Chapter 3...

And I can't remember if other NPC's have similar, event-driven scripting...

The game is kind of flaky. Even if there's no script to make a character disappear from the spot where you left them, sometimes they disappear anyway. Equally strange, they sometimes reappear sometime in the future when you return to that map. So to find Imoen again, I suggest leaving the area and coming back a few times to see if she returns.

I once posted a message that described exactly how and why Jaheira and Khalid disappear, but I can't remember the details. If I recall correctly, you should never dismiss them inside the FAI after you have completed the Nashkel Mines or they will disappear forever, due to the script that is in effect for the first level of the FAI. I don't remember which variable the game checks, but you can do a search for my previous message.

It is definitely the death of Mulhaney which is the triggering event. If you dip into the mines, they are still there, but once Mulhaney is dead they are gone forever.

Actually, the script for AR2301 only checks which chapter you're in. If you're past Chapter Two, Khalid and Jaheira will leave if they are in the room and not in your party. (Chapter Three begins when Mulahey is dead and you pick up the letter that Tazok wrote to Mulahey.)

You're right. I forgot about the letter.
All sorts of weird and wonderful things happen, or rather don't happen if you don't pick up the letter or you get the letter without Mulhaney being dead.
