Also sound (voices) BG2?

Post by Claudius »

Hi I didn't want to hijack the other users thread. I am also not hearing any voices. Couldn't hear irenicus saying evil things and couldn't hear imoen or me when I select them.

I could hear the movies voices and I have never had a problem in any other game. Voices worked on my older computer for the game software.

Ah I briefly heard my guy saying something but its very seldom and I didn't hear any of irenicus. I heard all of imoen and minsc but only before they are in my party. After I pick them up I don't get the command voices.

HP Pavilion
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4200+
2.19 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM

I'm working on finding my sound and graphics card. I will update this thread. Is Realtek AC97 audio a sound card? The video card is NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT.

I set all the game settings to max and said to do 3D acceleration. I tried changing the sound setting to a lower Hz but it didn't help.

From other posts I'm gathering it could be a corrupt disk or the driver. I don't think its the first because it works on my old computer, but if its the second I don't know how to find the right driver to reinstall online. Do I go to Hewlett Packard website?

Thanks

Update: I went to install the realtek AC97 driver and it said it was not certified with the windows logo meaning it is safe to use. I have heard I can set a systems something or other point so that if I do it and it creates havoc I can go back to the previous setup. Does anyone else know how to do this?

Update: I updated the driver from HP website and it didn't help

Update: I reinstalled the game. I still don't hear irenicus but I occasionally hear the chars. This leads me to believe the disk is corrupt (and I cleaned them before installing both times). Soooo I guess the game isn't as timeless as I thought. I don't think I would buy a new copy unless it was under 10 dollars.

I bought another copy of BG 2 and expansion (for cheap) and discovered that it has the same problem.

As I mentioned in my previous post I did update my sound cards driver so I don't know what else it could be???

Does anyone know?

Try turning off 'Environmental Audio' in the Sound options.

I fixed it...

I went to Start > Run > dxdiag.exe

In the sound tab there is a setting for hardware sound acceleration. Set this from Full to one to the left. Fixed the voices :) Yay. Now it is minsc, me, imoen , and jaheira once again in the CI

Wow, this is great news. I had the same problem, I also bought another BGII copy. I'll try this out the next time I play it. Thanks!
