Bonus Merchants not installed ?

Post by RedneckJedi »

Hi. I just noticed that my bonus merchants didn't install when I installed my recent game. I did a full installation and have the appropriate discks. I am quite far along in the game and was wondering what caused this and (more importantly) if I can somehow get them added mid-game...

Thanks.

You have ToB installed? Because they were added with ToB, though they show up in SoA.

If you don't have it, then there are various mods that add them to SoA. I would suggest googling for the G3 Tweak Pack, put out by the Gibberlings Three.

Actually, here's the link to the G3 Tweak Pack. CTRL+F for merchants, and you'll find them listed as one of the mod's features.

I do have ToB installed (I got them both in the same set). I haven't had any problem with them until now. The lady who sells scrolls in Adventure Mart is there and so is "Lucy". Its strange.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest ToB patch? That could make a difference.

Yes. But I still don't understand how they could be there my previous games and not this one... Unless something happened during installation...

Could be. Do you have any mods installed? I'm thinking there might be conflicts, but that's unlikely. If you installed the game exactly as you've done before, and the merchants were there in the past but aren't there now, something is wrong.

I was thinking that. I have no mods installed (don't even know how to install them, lol)... I guess its either re-install or finish the game with no Robe of Vecna!:speech:

Don't give up hope. :D Do you have the console activated? If not, add Debug Mode=1 on a line to itself under Program Options in your game INI file. Save, and exit. Load BG2, and hit CTRL+spacebar. You should see a line open towards the bottom of the screen.

Highlight a character with an inventory slot free. Then type in:

CLUAConsole:CreateItem("wa2robe")

Hit return. You should find the Robe of Vecna in the inventory slot. I know, it's a cheat, but if you can't find that item and you dearly want it, that's one way to go.

Thanks. I have ShadowKeeper but I am loathe to use it as I always find myself "tweaking" my party too much...:mischief: I don't intend to but it just happens. I may try the CLUA since I have never tried that before...

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("WMART1")
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("WMART2")
Console both merchants into the game.

I'd go with CoM_Solaufein's method, since it's less of a cheat ;)

If you can get them working. Problem is, sometimes they refuse to show up, and then you can only get the robe using the console. In which case, you can always make it a "not-cheat" by ignoring the amount of money your party has that would equal its cost.

Which is what I did when this happened, three go-throughs ago. Not that it wasn't a temptation to use the funds at first, but it became second nature before long to figure that my baseline gold was a certain amount above zero. Anything below it ceased to exist.

Good practice for handling credit cards in reallife, too. ;)
