Level up problem

i recently got this game so it may just be i not doing it right, im still a lvl 1 and when i look in my stats it says something like "progress to next level" and has a bar next to it, its full but i have not leveled up yet,d o i have to do something to level up or should it do it automatically?

You have to sleep in a bed to level up. Waiting will not do. You can find bedrolls in camps around the world or you can go to an inn and rent a room. This is the kind of information you can find in the manual though.
