Okay, so my problem is I've had this game for 1 year as of 5 days ago, and I haven't got past lvl 8. Yes, you can all laugh at me. I just can't find the right build. I want good damage with any weapon, ranged or melee, and I want good arcane spells. I can't seem to get it right. Please help, if you reply please tell me race, class, and possibly attributes. Please reply. Thank you

I need serious help for a character
rofl, you are just like me. but i am not so much hooked up with char creation. i need about a month for every char i make; first pencil and paper (all very in depth), and then ill make it on the computer. but one suggestion here... i see you have some problems with that. and 1 year is for sure to much. you are the kind that wants to play the perfect class form the beginning, that can do all things, but when you play the first time that is not possible. finish the game a few times with other chars and then you will see what suits you, and then you can make your ultimate class, that can do all what you want. just dont be so "perfectly" oriented, because that way, you will never finish a game like nwn2, because you will always moan.samuro-- wrote:Okay, so my problem is I've had this game for 1 year as of 5 days ago, and I haven't got past lvl 8. my suggestion here and now is:
BARD! hehe, yes, its truth. you said you want good damage and the bard gives you some good damage, but still not much because he is a supportive class. he can have many skills (after the rogue he is the best at that) and be the best diplomat. a note, you wont rush to much in battle, you will stay behind the lines and sing songs and boost you other members. because you are significantly weaker than warriors.
if you want a more stronger build, the you can take a paladin, he is a very good tank and fighter, and has some divine speels and very good feats granted. he is also a good diplomat.
or the druid, he can be a extremely good tanker with all speels at hand. you can play him as a shapeshifter, and still cast spells if you choose the natural spell feat. this character can be playid in very muchg ways.
so here are some insights. but my guess is that you wont start a char even now. because this few chars i gave you are still to much for you to choose one! am i right or am i right?! trust me, i had the same problems xD. if you want detailed character builds you can pm me.
edit: my suggestion here is also, just take a random char that ha some diplomatic skills, start the game and enjoy the story. and you wills ee that you wont be much concerned about your build. because the story is so damn good.
Bard with passion!

Wanting good melee or ranged damage + arcane spells eh? I can tell you straight off it's hard to get working. Arcane spells are only really useful if you don't multiclass. Take other classes and your spells will end up too weak. So in short, I doubt you're doing anything wrong. It's just something that isn't really supposed to work. You simply can't have the best of both worlds. Hybrids are in general tougher to play, but can be rewarding.
You could try
Human Wizard/Fighter/Eldritch knight - high str, con, int
Elf Wizard/Fighter/Arcane Archer - high dex, con, int
But in my humble opinion, you're better off playing a full sorcerer for arcane spells and forget about melee and ranged damage. Don't make it too hard on yourself ^_^

Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

i would say go with a bard. then soon as you can multiclass into red dragon deciple. stay with that till 10, then back to leveling bard. with MoTB you can get past lvl 20, so it wont be a problem getting bard to 20 and RDD to 10. oh dont forget to get the feat that allows you to cast wearing medium armor with no penalty. two weapon style is a plus
It's hard to decide
I've recently begun going through the OC for the third time and I still spend hours and hours thinking up the best combinations. As it's been said above, you just need to bite the bullet and pick something. I found that I still enjoyed the game regardless of what class I was playing. If it's any help I enjoyed the 20 sorceror/ 10 RDD build. But that's just my 2 cents.
Good luck.

You have received a lot of good advice from many members. V1k1ng's is best of all. Class is not as important as how you role play it. Thieves sneak attack, wizards cast, bards support, paladins tank, fighters kick butt and sometimes forget to take names. Nor are the classes limits on your solutions. I have had my bard tank, and used the paladin to smooth talk our way out of a situation. I have taken rogues and sneaked in solo, to hit the worst of the enemy, then cut loose with the rest of my troop on the remaining bad guys. Case in point was Took twice to get it right, but when it worked, WOW!
So when you make your character, chose the attributes that you like, and go with it. You will get chances in the game to add to attributes and you can choose you feats to offset or reinforce your character's abilities.
Each of my times through the game, I used a different character, and found different ways of solving some of the puzzles and battles. Tactics are more important that anything else. You have enough talent in your NPCs to tackle almost anything in the game.
I would like to add that no matter what build you make, none of them rock until you get past level 10. Trust me, the game will really open up for you at that point.
So play something fun.

Spoiler
I set up an L-ambush on the bandits, effectively cleaning out the compound, using my bard as bait and Neeshka as trap setter. (mage armor, belt of piercing, haste, etc.)
