party suggestion?
party suggestion?
I am currently playing a F/M/T. Lawful neutral. I am trying to figure out which party members are best suited for me, also- is it a must to have only 4 party members in order to get decent levels as a multi-class?
I would prefer a more Neutral oriented group... Keldorn rocks with Crosmyr but it just doesn't strike me right.
Currently I use no npc mods.
if having 5 or even 6 party members it's easier... I simply am uncertain.
Thanks in advance.

It is NOT a must in any way to have less than maximum party members for a triple multiclassed character.
1) the protagonist gets (slightly) more XP than any NPC (esp. if you romance Jaheira).
2) I've played a FMC in a full party and he did just fine.
IMO, it helps though (but I prefer 3 or 4 party members anyway).
Here's what I'd suggest for a 4 person Neutral party:
FMT protagonist (concentrate thief skills on Stealth & Trap Setting)
Jaheira (romance)
Jan (concentrate thief skills on Lockpicking and Trap Disarming)
Haer'Dalis (he's a mini Fighter/Mage!)
You'll find that you will FLY through the levels with this party. The only thing that's missing is a Cleric, and if you'd like you can sub in Anomen instead of Jan (but that leaves all the thieving skills to the protagonist). You gain XP every time a scroll is successfully scribed in BGII, and with 3 arcane spellcasters, you will really notice them advancing.
BTW, there are a lot of different ways to play a FMT. I had the most fun with one while playing him like a F/T with the spells to just assist his combat abilities.

the neutral chars of bgII are
Jaheira,
Jan,
Cernd,
hear'dalis
and yoshimo
this party fits your fmt very well, since it is often played like a fighter with buffing magic, who starts with a BS
imho you do not need yoshimo and could switch him for an bonus mage
i often end up by adding edwin or arie but you could also leave this spot free to add npc which you need for some quests ( Valygar, planetar sphere etc.)
and your pc would level a bit faster which could be a relief since you tripple classed

Yoshimo is unavailable in ToB.
I found that my FMT was really a F/T with added arcane skills. the levelling takes time, but using the Deck of Many Things whilst other party members take time off really boosts levels if you somehow get THRONE as your final draw (see DoMT info on this site).
If you have Jan, have the PC get their stealth and set traps high and leave finding/unlocking to Jan. Knock spells are only level 2 though...
for a neutral PC, I would go with Keldorn (despite his alignment), Sarevok, Jan and Viconia/Jaheira. K's true sight and dispel are very very useful in ToB and having him and Sarevok as 2 tanks saves the PC needing to get stuck in quite as much. there are times when enemies will use death magic or otherwise seem to have vorpal-type attacks and you don't want to be re-loading more than you need.
Viconia is a very effective cleric and doesn't cause the aggro that she does in BG2. at high levels she 'turned' Keldorn! took me by surprise that one!
so the core should be a tank, a caster and a healer - if the PC gets enough thief skill points, then you can go with Edwin as caster instead of Jan.
I recently emptied out the Arcana archives and that gives a caster a LOT of scrolls. However - multi-class characters find it difficult to get to level 9 spells and you need to balance the xp of learning them against putting the scroll in the quick slot and having a PI/Simulcrum cast instead.
(that reminds me that with Vailor's Helm, a cleric can void the tiredness of casting restoration)

I only have Keldorn and Vici together in ToB - K issues an ultimatum if you have them in BG2, which is a real shame, but I don't want to distort the game with the 'happy party' fixpack and the tensions between the NPCs are part of the game itself. I used to have K for the Unseeing Eye Quest and Watchers Keep - at least until he gets the paladin's sword.
he is useful with Carsomyr, so I sometimes have him back later on.
I like to have Vici as my cleric as she is a better fighter than Anomen for s good part of the game. her MR and saving throws make her less likely to run away like Anomen often does.
when Anomen becomes Sir Anomen, he is on the way to being a decent NPC, so if I have Keldorn, it is Sir Anomen I pair him with.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Anomen is a better fighter (with 7 Fighter levels and the ability to put more than one * in weapons than Viconia ever will be. More Attacks per Round + more Hit Points makes a better fighter.Celacena wrote: he is useful with Carsomyr, so I sometimes have him back later on.

Definately not. The things you should focus on with fighters is generally defenses, as they tend to hit and damage pretty nicely anyway. There's no way that one extra attack and a little better damage can stand up to Viccy's wicked magical resistance.
And by the way, the amount of characters that's easiest to play with is totally up to you. I prefer around 4 myself, some never plays with less than 6, it's really just your own preferrence.
